Özet
Objective: To investigate routine urinalysis of pregnant women in first antenal follow-up and to assess association between abnormal urinalysis results and pregnancy outcomes. Material and Methods: Urinalysis, urine cultures and pregnancy outcomes and perinatal complications of 1882 pregnant women who admitted for first antenatal follow up to outpatient clinic were retrospectively analyzed. Pregnant women were grouped into two with respect to results of urinalysis (normal and abnormal group) and perinatal outcomes of these two groups were compared. Results: The rate of abnormal urinalysis was 28%. Microscopic hematuria was the most common abnormality with an incidence of 41% (219 patients) following proteinuria with rate of 12% (64 patients). There were 39 (21%) bacterial growth in urine cultures from 179 pregnant women with a suspicion of urinary tract infection. Women with abnormal urinalysis results were more likely to have adverse obstetric outcomes than women with normal results (p=0.031). There were eight cases of preterm labor, eight women with oligohydramnios. In follow-up four women were diagnosed as having preeclampsia and three of them had proteinuria in first visit. Conclusion: Urinalysis is simple and readily available test which is also a valuable tool diagnosing urogenital disorders such as asymptomatic bacteruria, proteinuria and hematuria. Pregnant women with early onset proteinuria is particularly at risk for preeclampsia and close follow-up for these patients are warrented. Copyright © 2012 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
