Özet
Bu çalışma, popüler kültür ve rock'n'roll müzik türü arasındaki ilişkiyi anlamaya ve açıklamaya yönelik bir amaçla yapılmıştır. 1950'li yıllarda Batı'da gelişmeye başlayan ve özellikle 1960'lı yılların toplumsal ortamında gençlik kesiminin toplumsal direniş gerçekleştirmek adına başvurduğu en işlevsel kaynak olarak değerlendirilen rock'n'roll, kitle iletişim araçlarına, aile kurumuna ve genel anlamda toplumun sahip olduğu gelenek yapısına karşı oluşuyla kimileri tarafından ?devrimci? bir özelliğe sahip, ancak çoğunluk tarafından da yalnızca gençliğin isyanını dile getiren bir müzik biçimi olarak değerlendirilmiştir. lk gelişmeye başladığı yıllarda popüler müzik endüstrisine, tekellere ve iktidar gruplarına karşı bir tehdit unsuru olarak duran rock, o yıllarda müziksel anlamda kendi adına bir toplumsal işlev yüklenmiştir. Ancak, rock müzik daha ileriki zamanlarda yerine getirdiği bu işlevinden tamamen sıyrılarak, popüler müzik endüstrisi içinde kendisine önemli bir yer edinmiştir.
This study is made to explain and to understand the relation between popular culture and kind of rock?n?roll music. Rock?n?roll, which has started to develop in the West during 1950s and has been evaluated as the most functional source to apply on behalf of making real the social resistance of the youth especially in 1960s social environment, has been evaluated to have the feature of ?revolutionist? by the ones who oppose the means of mass communication, family institution and in general, the traditional structure of the society. Rock, which stands as a menace in front of the popular music industry monopolists and powerful groups in the years of development, has taken on responsibility on behalf of social function in the meaning of music in those years. But, rock music has placed itself in popular music industry by completely seperating itself from that function which has been relalised infurther times.
