Araştırma "Giriş" ve üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. "Giriş"te hicvin tanımı, mahiyeti ve felsefesi anlatılmak istenmiştir. "İkinci Bölüm"de manzum hiciv yazmış başlıca şahsiyetler kısaca tanıtılmıştır. "Üçüncü Bölüm", araştırmanın asıl ve en hacimli kısmıdır. Burada incelenen metinler siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel içeriklere göre ele alınarak tarihî çerçeve içinde yorumlanmıştır. Şiirlerin yazılma amaçları, bir kuruluşun veya şahsın sık hicvedilen yönleri sebeplerle aydınlatılmak istenmiştir. Cumhuriyet'in ilanından sonra yaşadığımız hemen her sosyal, siyasi ve kültürel mesele edebiyatın en eski türlerinden biri olan hicivde işlenmiştir. Zaman zaman siyasi baskı sebebiyle konular gecikmeli olarak ele alınsa da şairler ve mizahçılar detayları bile dikkatten kaçırmamıştır. İçerikleri itibarıyla edebiyatın yanında sosyoloji, siyaset ve tarih biliminin de ilgi alanına giren bu dizelerde bizim yakın geçmişteki hikâyemiz anlatılmaktadır.The research is comprised of an Introduction and three chapters. The Introduction explains satire, its nature and its philosophy. Chapter two provides a brief introduction of major poets of satire. Chapter three is the main and most voluminous body of the thesis: it analyses satirical works of poetry within their historical framework, bearing in mind their political, social, and cultural contexts. The chapter aims to shed light on why satirical poets wrote their particular works in the first place, as well as how particular institutions or persons were commonly satirized.Following the institution of the republic, almost every social, political, and cultural event has been the subject of a satire, one of the oldest canons of literature.
