Design means the principles and techniques oflanguage teaching and explains the characteristics of your schoolcurriculum. The purpose of this study is to reveal the teachers’ views onthe quality of courseboooks that have been used by the school of foreignlanguages. Do the coursebooks fulfill the expectations in languagelearning? What kind of limitations and deficiencies do coursebookshave? These questions are analyzed in this paper and the coursebook(series titled ‘English for Life' by Oxford University Press) was evaluatedfrom the language teachers' perspective. In the study, the data weregathered from the questionnaire results of some teachers who havebeen teaching in English classes which are compulsory lessons andhave been using the coursebook beginner and elementary level duringtwo terms. According to the results, it was revealed that coursebookswhich take place in language education as the main material have somelimits. However, course books should be accompanied bysupplementary digital materials that serve self-autonomy for thelearners, encouraging their efforts and self-esteem to learn a foreignlanguage beyond the classroom. Surely, course books should have i-tools to attract attention for class teaching and e-tools to expandlearning and not to fall behind in the age of technology. Istructors ofEnglish can use coursebooks as a guide but not take it as a holly bookto adhere for blind obedience.EFL'de (Yabancı Dil Olarak İngilizce) kullanılan ders kitapları,Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu'ndaki dil eğitimi ve öğretim kavramınıntasarımında en önemli kararlardan biridir. Uygun materyallerin seçimiçok profesyonelce yapılmalıdır. Ders kitapları, yabancı dil öğretimtasarımını gösterir. Tasarım, dil öğretiminin ilkeleri ve tekniklerianlamına gelir ve okul müfredatınızın özelliklerini açıklar. Buçalışmanın amacı, öğretmenlerin, bir yabancı dil okulu tarafındankullanılan ders kitaplarının niteliğine ilişkin görüşlerini ortayakoymaktır. Ders kitapları dil öğrenimindeki beklentileri karşılar mı?Ders kitabında ne gibi kısıtlamalar ve eksiklikler vardır? Bu sorular buyazıda incelenmekte ve Oxford University Press'in “English for Life” adlıders kitabı dil öğretmenlerinin bakış açısıyla değerlendirilmektedir.Araştırmada, Zorunlu İngilizce Dersi’nde dersi olan ve iki dönembaşlangıç ve birinci seviye ders kitabı kullanan öğretmenlerin anketsonuçlarından elde edilen veriler toplanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlaragöre, dil eğitiminde yer alan ders kitaplarının ana materyal olarak sınırlıolduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ancak, ders kitaplarına, öğrenciler içinözyönelime teşvik eden eden, çabalarını teşvik eden ve sınıfın dışındayabancı dil öğrenmeyi sürdürmek için tamamlayıcı dijital materyallereşlik etmelidir.
