However, scientific studies indicate that this interaction is more one-sided than reciprocal. It can be said that the first spark in this area emerged while researching the origins of the "trust" institution. As academic studies expanded their scope, they confirmed the belief that this influence was not partial but general. However, much more data was needed to speak of a general influence. Otherwise, this claim would remain unscientific and be considered a mere wishful thought or even a delusion. George Makdisi conducted serious research on the influence of Islamic educational institutions, particularly the madrasa system, on English culture, and produced two works in this field. The subject continued to interest second-generation researchers. The younger Makdisi contributed new findings to the research of the elder Makdisi. The research data indicated a shift from partial to general and universal influence. Finally, J. Makdisi, building on all previous academic and scientific research, boldly asserted that all legal systems that could possibly influence the common law system have structural differences with this legal understanding. Therefore, only one legal system can be mentioned as having an influence, and that is Islamic law. Professor Dr. Gonzalez, a faculty member at St. Thomas University School of Law, who conducts research on the thesis that Islamic law influenced and even shaped English common law both institutionally and theoretically, found Makdisi’s views extremely provocative yet convincing. He noted that Makdisi’s ability to outline a plausible path for this interaction was the strongest aspect of the thesis. We acknowledge that this claim is not something that those hearing it for the first time can easily accept.
