During the reproductive ages, hypertensive diseases of pregnancy (preeclampsia and eclampsia) that are major causes of morbidity and mortality for mothers and infants are also considered complications of pregnancy in the practice of family medicine. A total of 585.000 women throughout the world and 700 women in our country die annually due to complications of pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. In our country, the ratio of maternal mortality was 4.8% among all mortality of women and maternal mortality rate was 46.7 per 100.000 live births in 1998. Among the causes of maternal mortality in our country, the hypertensive diseases of pregnancy rank second. Two cases with preeclampsia and eclampsia that were treated successfully by the research assistants of Selçuk University Meram Medical Faculty during their training in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics were examined in this article.
