Similar results are also obtained by simple molten alkeli treatment of lignite, although the oxygen content was increased in the product. A reductive cleavege mechanism for the former but an oxydative cleavege mechanism for the latter process are suggested. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
