Investigation of engine performance and kit design for the usage of safflower oil as in diesel engine
    (PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2019) Oğuz, H.; Öğüt, H.; Aydın, F.; Ciniviz, M.; Eryılmaz, T.
In Turkey, the consumption of diesel oil is increasing both in transportation and in agricultural fields. In this study, the opportunities of the use of safflower oil, which grow originally in Turkey as a direct fuel in diesel engines, were researched to provide a new alternative for biofuel industry and to popularize the farming of oil crops. In this study, the kit design was completed first, and afterwards safflower oil was exposed to the process of neutralization and laundering, and then turned into standard fuel. For engine performance experiments, reference experiences were conducted by using diesel fuel by using safflower as a fuel in the engine with kit for 500 h; comparisons were made with regards to power, moment, diesel consumption, and exhaust emission. As a result, it was seen that when safflower was used as a fuel, there was a decrease in motor performance and emission, however specific fuel consumption increased. When safflower was used, there was not any residual on the engine that was found. The designed kit, which can be easily produced with national technology, did not cause any malfunction or negativity in the engine and it was successfully used. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The investigation of the use of plant-based wild mustard and boron doped oil as engine lubrication oil in diesel engines
    (PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2019) Öğüt, H.; Oğuz, H.; Aydın, F.; Ciniviz, M.; Deveci, H.
In internal combustion engines, mineral engine oils which serve as lubricants between parts are not used alone due to technical reasons and various additives are made use of for better lubrication. In these additives, liquid boron serves to reduce friction. To reduce the environmental damage caused by engine lubrication oils, it is necessary to improve the properties of biological oils so that they can be used and compete with mineral oils technically. In the study, the use of liquid boron as an engine lubrication oil additive, together with wild mustard oil methyl ester, was investigated. Two diesel engines with the same characteristics were used. In the first engine, experiments were carried out using mineral lubrication oil, then the experiments were repeated using mineral oil with additives, and the results were compared for both situations. The study was conducted mainly in the fields of element analysis of endoscopic examination and lubricating oil (Al, Fe, Cu, Pb, Cr). As a result, it was found out that the engine in which mineral lubricating oil with boron and wild mustard oil methyl ester additive was used did not pose any risks in terms of wear and engine oil life, compared to the engine without additive lubricating oil. Simulated Transit Studies on Peaches: Effects of Container, Cushion Materials and Vibration on Elasticity Modulus
(Farm Mach Ind Res Corp, Tokyo, Japan, 1999) Öğüt, H.; Aydın, C.; Peker, A.
Damage to fruits for processing and fresh consumption during transportation can be quite significant. This problem can be studied from the context of vibration theory based upon which, it is possible to reduce the damage by avoiding resonance vibration. Elasticity modulus is a very important mechanic property of agricultural products and variation of elasticity modulus described as damage in transportation. In this study, as the product (peaches) grown in Turkey uses a package (wooden container) and as cushion materials paper-board cartons, sponge and strofor have been used. This study had been realized with the help of vibration simulator in laboratory conditions. The minimum variation of elasticity modulus was obtained by using paper-board carton material.

Some Physical Properties of Turkish Mahaleb
(Academic Press Inc Elsevier Science, 2002) Aydın, C.; Öğüt, H.; Konak, M.
Physical properties of mahaleb (Prunus mahaleb L.) kernels were determined as a function of moisture content. In the moisture range from 2.9 to 10.2% d.b. the sphericity of mahaleb increased from 0.841 to 0.867, the 1000 kernel mass from 0.205 to 0.215 kg, the projected area from 0.866 to 0.997 cm(2) and angle of repose from 25 to 30.5degrees. Bulk density decreased from 616 to 566 kg m(-3), kernel density from 1250 to 1110 kg m(-3), porosity from 0.507 to 0.490 and terminal velocity from 7.56 to 6.42 m s(-1). Some Physical Properties of White Lupin
(ACADEMIC PRESS LTD, 1998) Öğüt, H.
The dependence of physical properties of white lupin on moisture content was determined. The average length, width and thickness of grains ranged from 9.85 to 10.52, 9.15 to 9.63 and 4.94 to 5.51 mm as the moisture content increased from 8.3 to 19.2% d.b., respectively. Over the same range, the volume of a grain increased from 0.35 to 0.43 cm(3), 1000 grain mass from 0.351 to 0.452 kg, porosity from 0.115 to 0.304 and projected area from 1.11 to 1.53 cm(2). The bulk density decreased from 868 to 768 kg/m(3) but kernel density increased from 980 to 1103 kg/m(3). Both the static and dynamic coefficients of friction against galvanized steel and rubber increased with increasing moisture content.
