    Clinical Features and Surgical Treatment of Cardiac Myxoma: Report of 18 Cases

    Myxomas are the most common benign primary cardiac tumors. As many patients with cardiac myxoma suffer from cerebral or systemic embolism, which are serious complications, diagnosis of the tumor is vital. Between 1990 and 2000, 18 patients (6 males, 12 females), aged 24 to 73 years (mean, 55.3 years), were operated on for cardiac myxoma. The most common location of the myxoma was the left atrium (78%), and the transseptal surgical approach was preferred (78%) as it allows total resection of the left atrial myxoma along with its pedicle. Carney complex, a familial autosomal dominant form of atrial myxoma, was not found in any of the patients. There had been no operative or postoperative mortality and morbidity. The mean postoperative follow-up period was 5 years (mean, 1 to 10 years). No recurrence had been seen. We believe that the transseptal approach, in allowing total resection of the myxoma, prevents recurrence.

    An Internal Iliac Artery Aneurysm Causing a Colonic Obstruction: Report of a Case

    An 80-year-old male patient presented with the chief complaints of a sudden onset of pain in the right lower quadrant and constipation of 3 days' duration. In computerized tomographic examination an aneurysm of right internal iliac artery and an abnormally enlarged descending colon were seen. During an emergency operation a small rupture in the subserosa of the rectosigmoid junction was found.

    Klippel-Trenaunay Sendromu (Bir Olgu Nedeniyle)

    Amaç: Nadir bir sendrom olan Klippel-Trenaunay sendromunu ( KTS ) literatür eşliğinde gözden geçirmek. Olgu sunumu: 16 yaşındaki erkek hasta kliniğimize doğumundan bu yana mevcut olan sol bacakta şişlik, kızarıklık şikayetiyle başvurdu.Hasta muayene ve tetkikleri sonrası Klippel-Trenaunay sendromu kabul edildi. Sonuc:Nadir konjenital bir anomali olan Klippel-Trenaunay sendromu sadece periferik tutulum göstermez,visseral tutulum da gözlenerek hayatı tehdit edebilir.

    Perikardiyal Effüzyonlarda Subksifoid Perikardiyal Pencere Operasyonu

    Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, perikardiyal effüzyonların tedavisinde subksifoid pencere operasyonunun etkinliğinin ve komplikasyon durumunun ortaya konmasıdır. Yöntem: 1985-1999 tarihleri arasında Selçuk Üniversitesi Kalp Damar Cerrahisi Kliniğinde perikardiyal effüzyon tanısı alan 55 hastaya subksifoid perikardiyal pencere operasyonu uygulandı. Kardiyak konstriksiyon saptanmadığından hiçbir hastada perikardiektomi uygulanmadı. Bulgular: Perikardiyal effüzyon 1 hastada malign, diğer hastalarda benign nedenli idi. Mortalite olmadı. Sonuç: Bu metod ile genel durumları kötü olan hastalara zarar vermeksizin perikardiyal kavite kolaylıkla değerlendirilebilmektedir. Kesin teşhis ve tedavi yanında uygulama kolaylığı nedeni ile bu yöntem tavsiye edildi.
