Öğe Analysis of chromosomes 8 and 17 aneuploidies in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma by fluorescence in situ hybridization(WILEY, 2004) Öztürk, Kayhan; Acar, Hasan; Durmuş, Ercan; Öztürk, Adnan; Mutlu, NecipObjectives/Hypothesis: The objectives were to investigate chromosomes 8 and 17 numerical aberrations by using fluorescence in situ hybridization in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and also to determine whether there is any association between chromosomes 8 and 17 aneuploidies and TNM classification and subgroups of laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas. Study Design: Descriptive study. Methods: Tumor and control samples were taken from 23 patients with LSCC by surgical operation. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis with chromosomes 8- and 17-specific a-satellite DNA probes was performed on the interphase nuclei. Results. The percentages for chromosomes 8 and 17 aneuploidies were 33% (SD = 25.7%) (median value, 26.2%; range, 3.5-81.8%) and 19.2% (SD = 15.8%) (median value, 9.8%; range, 3.6%-63.7%), respectively. There was a significant difference between stage 2 and stage 3 (P < .05) and between stage 2 and stage 4 for chromosome 8 aneuploidy (P < .05) but not for chromosome 17 aneuploidy (P > .05). There was also a significant difference for the T classification for chromosome 8 aneuploidy (P < .05) but not for chromosome 17 (P > .05). However, there might be an accessory branch of the infra-orbital nerve that are taken care during these interventions. This accessory nerve passes through the accessory infra-orbital foramen (AIOF). In the current study, in order to perform anatomic and morphometric analyses of AIOF, 112 skulls have been used. Appearance and frequency of AIOF, its direction with respect to IOF have been determined and distances to certain specified points have been measured by a digital caliper. It has been determined that the frequency of AIOF is 7% and often locates on the left (66.5%) and in the superomedial of IOF (93.3%). The average longest diameter of AIOF has been measured as 1.93 mm and the shortest diameter has been measured as 1.56 mm. It has been found that AIOF locates 22.18 mm away from the mid-line, 39.92 mm away from the supraorbital foramen/ the supraorbital notch, 21.95 mm away from the lower end of the nasomaxillary suture, 34.45 mm away from the lower end of the alveolar juga of the canines, 5.61 mm away from the infra-orbital margin, 3.95 mm away from IOF at the same side and 51.18 mm away from IOF at the opposite side. AIOF should be taken into consideration especially in oral and maxillofacial interventions on the left side of face.Öğe Desmoplastic Ameloblastoma in the Mandible(LIPPINCOTT WILLIAMS & WILKINS, 2003) Durmuş, Ercan; Kalayci, Abdullah; Öztürk, Adnan; Günhan, ÖmerThe desmoplastic variant of ameloblastoma (DA) is characterized by unique histological and radiographic features. It is histologically characterized by an abundance of densely collagenous stroma with small nests and strands of likely compressed odontogenic epithelium. Although radiographic examination of ameloblastomas usually reveals unilocular or multilocular radiolucency, DA may appear as a mixed radiopaque-radiolucent lesion. In this case report, a 68-year-old man who had a complaint of a mass in his right mental region is presented. The patient was unable to wear his prothesis because of an underlying swelling. An incisional biopsy was performed. Microscopic examination of the surgical specimen revealed large epithelial islands of ameloblast-like cells within increased, dense, collagenous desmoplastic stroma. Histopathologically, it was diagnosed as DA. Under local anesthesia, the lesion was enucleated. There was no recurrence after 32 months of follow-up.Öğe Nokturnal bruksizm ile ruhsal belirti arası ilişki(1999) Mutlu, M. Necip; Herken, Hasan; Küçükkolbaşı, Hasan; Turan, Metin; Öztürk, AdnanAmaç: Nokturnal bruksizm dişlerin gıcırdatılması ve sıkılması ile karakterize, toplumda oldukça yaygın görülebilen bir rahatsızlıktır. Etyolojisinde dişsel, psikolojik ve sistemik faktörler etkili olmakla birlikte, emosyonel durum en önemli nedendir. Bu çalışmanın amacı emosyonel durum ile burksizm arasındaki ilişkiyi göstermektir. Materyal ve metod: Çalışma bruksizm yakınması olan (50) ve olmayan (50) toplam 100 öğrenci üzerinde yapılmıştır. Öğrenciler; Hacettepe kişilik envanteri (HKE), ruhsal belirti tarama listesi (SCL-90-R), durumluluk ve süreklik kaygı envanteri (STAİ I-II), Beck depresyon ölçeği (BDÖ), Rosenberg benlik saygısı ölçeği (RSÖ) ve yaşam doyum ölçeği testleri kullanılarak psikometrik açıdan değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Testlerin psikometrik değerlendirmesinde bruksizm yakınması olanlar ile, yakınması olmayanlar arasında Beck depresyon ölçeği, STAI-I, STAI-II, Rosenberg benlik saygısı ölçeğinde anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Ayrıca bruksizm yakınması olanlar ve olmayanların kişilik özellikleri arasında kendini gerçekleştirme, duygusal kararlılık, nörotik eğilim, antisosyal eğilimler ve sosyal uyum değerlendirmeleri arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Nokturnal bruksizm yakınması olan ve kliniğe başvuran hastalarda ruhsal durumun dikkatle ele alınmasının, tedavide önemli bir faktör olduğu görüldü.Öğe Osteogenic Differentiation of MC3T3-E1 Cells on Different Titanium Surfaces(IOP PUBLISHING LTD, 2012) Hakkı, S. Buket; Hakkı, Erdoğan E.; Korkusuz, Petek; Puralı, Nuhan; Koç, Nursen; Timuçin, Muharrem; Öztürk, Adnan; Korkusuz, FezamRNA expressions related to osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells on electro-polished smooth (S), sandblasted small-grit (SSG) and sandblasted large-grit (SLG) surfaces of titanium alloys were investigated in vitro. Gene expression profiles of cells were evaluated using the RT2 Profiler PCR microarray on day 7. Mineralizing tissue-associated proteins, differentiation factors and extracellular matrix enzymes mRNA expressions were measured using Q-PCR. SLG surface upregulated 23 genes over twofolds and downregulated 3 genes when compared to the S surface. In comparison to the SSG surface, at least a twofold increase in 25 genes was observed in the SLG surface. BSP, OCN, OPN, COL I and ALP mRNA expressions increased in the SLG group when compared to the S and the SSG groups. BMP-2, BMP-6 and TGF-beta mRNA expressions increased in both the SSG and the SLG surfaces. MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA expressions increased as the surface roughness increased. This study demonstrated that surface roughness of titanium implants has a significant effect on cellular behavior and SLG surface apparently increased gene expressions related to osteogenesis when compared to the S and the SSG surfaces.
