Öğe A Familial Case of Piebaldism(WOLTERS KLUWER MEDKNOW PUBLICATIONS, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Ataseven, Arzu[Abstract not Available]Öğe Frequency of metabolic syndrome in patients with knuckle pads(WILEY-BLACKWELL, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Kutlu, Orkide; Duran, Cevdet; Kurku, Huseyin; Ataseven, Arzu; Akyurek, Fatma TuncezKnuckle pads are hyperkeratotic, benign skin lesions that we commonly observe in obese patients. There is no study that investigates the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and knuckle pads. We aimed to investigate the frequency of MetS in patients with knuckle pads. Forty-seven patients with knuckle pads and 46 age-and sex-matched controls were enrolled. The presence of MetS was evaluated according to National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. In the patient group, waist circumference (P < 0.01), body mass index (BMI; P < 0.01), and systolic (P < 0.01) and diastolic blood pressure (P < 0.01) were higher than controls, and most of the patients had a history of hypertension (P < 0.01). The presence of MetS was found in 66% of the patients with knuckle pads and in 52.2% of the controls (P = 0.25). In the patient group, compared with controls, more patients had blood pressure above reference values or were on antihypertensive therapy (70.2% and 43.5%, P = 0.017, respectively), and had greater waist circumference value (93.6% and 76.1%, P = 0.038, respectively). The presence of the other three criteria were similar in both groups. Although we found similar MetS frequency in both groups, patients with knuckle pads should be examined for the presence of MetS components, especially abdominal obesity and hypertension.Öğe Hypomelanosis of Ito: A Case Report(GALENOS YAYINCILIK, 2016) Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Ataseven, Arzu; Toy, Hatice; Uzun, Meltem[Abstract not Available]Öğe Jessner's lymphocytic Infiltration(DERMAN MEDICAL PUBL, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Ataseven, Arzu; Kucukosmanoglu, Ilknur; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Ozer, IlkayJessner's lymphocytic infiltration of the skin is a chronic, benign T-cell infiltrative disorder, usually manifesting as erythematous papules or plaques on the face, neck and back. Here we report the case of a 52-year-old man, who presented erythematous infiltrated plaques on the back. Skin biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of Jessner's lymphocytic infiltration of the skin.Öğe Knowledge, Beliefs and Attitudes of Patients with Verruca Vulgaris About the Disease(GALENOS YAYINCILIK, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Cihan, Fatma Goksin; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Ataseven, Arzu; Sarioglu, Ayse; Akman, ZahideObjective: The purpose of this study was to learn the opinions of the patients with non-genital verruca vulgaris about the cause, course and treatment of verruca and their sources of information. Methods: A total of 187 non-genital verruca patients over 15 years old were included in the study. Their ideas about the cause, ways of transmission and treatment, and the sources they referred for information about the disease were recorded. Results: Of the participants, 44.4% thought it was contagious, 3.2% thought it was genetically inherited and 11.8% thought that is was not a disease. Seventy six of the patients (40.6%) had no idea about the subject. When the causes of verruca was questioned, 88 patients (47.1%) replied that it is a virus, 12 patients (6.4%) thought that it was transmitted by frogs, 4 patients (2.1%) thought that it was transmitted by turtles and 83 patients (44.4%) thought that it was transmitted by other reasons. Forty five of the patients (24.1%) tried conventional treatment methods previously. Of them, 16 (35.5%) had the verruca prayed, 7 (15.5%) applied fig sap, 6 (13.4%) applied vaseline/toothpaste, 6 (13.4%) applied acid on it, 4 (8.9%) tied it with a string, 4 (8.9%) used keratoma tape, and 2 (4.4%) cut it. Conclusion: It was determined that such a common dermatological disease is not recognized and the treatment methods are not known enough.Öğe Plasma-soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) levels in psoriasis patients and correlation with disease severity(DERMATOVENEROLOGICAL SOC SLOVENIA, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Kesli, Recep; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Akyuret, Fikret; Terzi, YukselObjective: Psoriasis is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory, hyper-proliferative skin disease. Plasma-soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is released from the cell membrane-bound plasminogen activator and is a new biomarker of systemic inflammation. The aim of this study is to investigate plasma levels in psoriasis patients and determine their correlation with the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. Materials and methods: The plasma suPAR levels of 50 healthy individuals and 65 psoriasis patients were measured using the Micro-ELISA method and the relation with PASI was investigated. Results: On comparing plasma suPAR levels of the psoriasis patients with the control group consisting of healthy individuals, no statistically significant difference was determined (5.29 ng/ml +/- 2.12 and 6.03 ng/ml +/- 2.42, respectively, p = 0.326; Table 1). Likewise, there was no significant correlation between the suPAR levels and PASI score (r = 0.147, p = 0.243 > 0.05). Conclusions: There was no statistically significant difference in the plasma SuPAR levels of psoriasis patients compared to the control group. Nevertheless, we firmly believe that plasma SuPAR, a new biomarker, could indicate disease severity if conducted with larger patient series and with moderate to severe psoriasis patients.Öğe Pseudo Darier Sign: A Distinctive Finding for Congenital Smooth Muscle Hamartoma(MOSBY-ELSEVIER, 2016) Bilgic, Ozlem; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Altinyazar, Hilmi Cevdet[Abstract not Available]Öğe Serpentine supravenous hyperpigmentation related to carboplatin and vinorelbine chemotherapy: A case report(WILEY, 2019) Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Sari, Nihal; Ugurluoglu, Ceyhan; Kurtipek, Gulcan SaylamSerpentine supravenous hyperpigmentation (SSH) is a unique type of chemotherapy-associated drug eruption, characterized by hyperpigmentation along the superficial venous network. Histopathology reveals an increase in melanin production without destruction of basal cells of the epidermis or dermal inflammatory infiltrate. Herein, we describe a patient who developed SSH after repeated intravenous infusions with carboplatin and vinorelbine; two medications that have been uncommonly reported in association with SSH previously.Öğe Zosteriform Lichen Planus(GALENOS YAYINCILIK, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Akyurek, Fatma Tuncez; Ataseven, Arzu; Kucukosmanoglu, Ilknur[Abstract not Available]Öğe Zosteriform psoriasis vulgaris: An unusual koebner phenomenon(AVES PRESS LTD, 2015) Kurtipek, Gulcan Saylam; Ataseven, Arzu; Kucukosmanoglu, Ilknur; Akyurek, Fatma TuncezPsoriasis vulgaris is an inflammatory papulosquamous and koebner positive disease of the skin. The isotopic (koebner) response, a result of secondary dermatitis, is unrelated with former recovery of dermatitis. Although first reported by Wolf et. al (1) with a series of 58 patients, koebnerization resulting from Herpes Zoster infection is extremely rare in the current literature. A 74-year-old female patient with a 7-day history of multiple papular eruptions on C5 dermatome was admitted to our clinic. Psoriatic lesions were observed on the same dermatome two weeks later. The clinical as well as histopathological confirmed psoriasis diagnosis.
