Öğe COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF ROMA AND NON-ROMA MOTHERS AND RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE LEVELS OF THEIR CHILDREN(SOC PERSONALITY RES INC, 2012) Orcan, Maide; Cicekler, Canan Yildiz; Aral, NerimanThe communication skills of Roma and non-Roma mothers and the receptive language levels of their children were compared. The analysis was based on a relational scanning model, and conducted on 28 Roma and 29 non-Roma mothers and their children aged between 5 and 6 years, who live in Konya, Turkey. The Communication Skills Rating Scale (Korkut, 1996) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT, Dunn, 1959) were used and data were assessed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results indicate that in terms of communication skills of mothers, and their children's receptive language levels, non-Roma mothers and their children have using significantly higher skill levels.Öğe An Investigation of School Readiness and Receptive Language Levels of Roma and Non-Roma Children(INFORMATION ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST, USA, 2013) Cicekler, Canan Yildiz; Orcan, Maide; Aral, NerimanThe goal of this study is the comparison of the school readiness and receptive language levels of Roma and non-Roma children. The study is based on causal-comparative scanning model. The subjects of the study are the Roma (28 children) and non-Roma (28 children) in Konya city center who do not attend preschool. The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and Metropolitan Readiness Tests were used in the research. Because the data did not conform to normality assumption, they were evaluated by Mann Whitney U-test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient test. At the end of the study, significant differences between Roma and non-Roma children were observed both in school readiness and receptive language levels in favor of non-Roma children. Additionally, a positive correlation was observed between the school readiness and receptive language levels both in Roma and non-Roma children.Öğe Turkish standardization of early childhood creativity scale1(Ankara University, 2020) Çiçekler, Canan Yıldız; Pirpir, Devlet Alakoç; Aral, NerimanThe aim of this study was to obtain a culturally adapted Turkish version of the Early Childhood Creativity Scale (ECCS), to test its validity and realibility and to establish the norms for Turkish culture. The study adopted survey design. Research sample included randomly selected 60-83 month old children from 12 different provinces that were determined based on NUTS 1 classification (Antalya, Balıkesir, Bursa, Erzurum, İstanbul, İzmir, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Konya, Malatya, Trabzon and Şanlıurfa). The sample size was calculated using the sampling formula based on the population of the study universe and 1750 children were sampled. Personal information form was used to obtain demographic information about children, and their level of creativity was measured with ECCS, which will be standardized in Turkey. SPSS 20 and LISREL (ver.8.80) were used for the analysis of the data. The analyses verified that ECCS is a valid and reliable tool, with established norms, to use with Turkish children. © 2020, Ankara University. All rights reserved.
