Öğe The impact of aerobic training on plasma testosterone and cortisol responses to exhaustive exercise(2011) Balci Ş.S.Aim. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of acute, exhaustive, and aerobic exercise training on testosterone and cortisol hormone levels and the testosterone:cortisol ratio in young adults. Methods. Twenty healthy young men (N.=8 control; N.=12 training) volunteered to run for 40-60 min/day, three days/week, and eight weeks at an intensity of 40-70% of their target heart rate. Venous blood was collected before and after high-intensity exhaustive running in order to measure the plasma levels of the hormones therein. Results. Testosterone and plasma cortisol levels and the testosterone:cortisol ratio did not differ between the groups after exhaustive running before and after training (P > 0.05); however, resting plasma testosterone levels significantly increased in the post-training period in the training group (P<0.05). Conclusion. Eight-week aerobic training did not alter the regulation of testosterone, cortisol, and the testosterone:cortisol ratio.
