Öğe Effect of volatility in real exchange rates and price changes on turkey's olive oil export: An empirical study(National Academy of Management, 2013) Tunalioglu R.; Ozer O.O.; Bayramoglu Z.In this study, the effects of volatility on real exchange rates and changes in the prices for extra virgin olive oil and refined olive oil at Turkey's olive oil export market are studied using the GARCH model. Monthly data covering the periods from January 2004 to December 2009 are used for the analysis. The worldwide economic crisis of 2008 is factored in as a dummy variable in the two models established separately for extra virgin olive oil and refined olive oil. This study shows that domestic and international prices, aside from fluctuations in exchange rate, directly affect Turkey's olive oil export. The results suggest that floating rate policy, which has been in use in Turkey since 2001, is more advantageous for olive oil export. The study concludes by suggesting that Turkey's olive oil export is not adversely affected by the worldwide economic crises. © Renan Tunalioglu, Osman Orkan Ozer, Zeki Bayramoglu, 2013.Öğe Energy input use on organic farming: A comparative analysis on organic versus conventional farms in Turkey(2006) Gündogmus E.; Bayramoglu Z.An assessment was made of the energy efficiency, benefit/cost ratio and labour requirements for the production of raisin using organic and conventional farming techniques. Total energy requirement under organic raisin farming was 22,204.94 MJ ha-1 whereas 28,903.30 MJ ha-1 was consumed under conventional farming system. Organic raisin production was 23% more energy efficient than conventional production. The labour input per hectare was higher for organic systems compared with conventional production. The share of renewable energy input use in the total energy input is 23.92% on organic production and 6.27% on conventional production. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
