Öğe Assessment of flexible pavement fatigue life of Turkish typical sections using mechanistic empirical pavement design approach for coastal region(ELSEVIER, 2019) Celik, Osman Nuri; Eyada, Saadoon O.Due to rapid progressing in the economy of Turkey, the Turkish Transportation Authority has increased the Motorway and Provincial road lengths. The ESALs have reached several hundreds of millions and accompanied with an increase in the weights of axles. The old AASHTO 1993 is still the design method used in Turkey. This method has many limitations due to, the authors in this work are trying to use the new Mechanistic-Empirical M-E Pavement Design method for the assessment of the Fatigue Life FL of Typical Sections in Turkey TTS. The Coastal (hotter) Region is selected. Antalya city is representing the climate of Coastal Region. The MnPave M-E design software has been used for the calculations. Many types of asphalt have been used to study the effect of asphalt type on FL. The results were very important and the recommendation of the transition of Turkey towards the new M-EDM is recorded. This paper is to evaluate the compactibility of hot asphalt mixtures (HAM) made with crump rubber modified bitumen, which was manufactured by incorporating the waste shredded-tire rubber particles in base bitumen in different sizes and concentration. Type of binder and binder viscosity during compaction has a great effect on the compactibility of HAM. Compaction Coefficient (CC), which is variation in porosity line throughout compaction, could be related with the energy needed to compact the mixture. Less energy is needed for the mixture having low CC. Modification of bitumen with rubber makes the mixture less compactable when compared with the mixtures made without rubber. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. The modification process is carried out by adding the admixtures on specific rates and conditions into the binder or into the bituminous mixture on the mixture plant. By modifying the properties of the used bituminous materials the performance of both the binder and the mixture is tried to be improved. Intense studies have been carried out in Turkey and the World, for rendering the bituminous hot mixtures more durable against the current road and weather conditions. For this purpose, modifications of bituminous mixtures have been started to use with the aid of chemical substances as vehicle tires, polypropylene, rubber, waste plastics, sulfur, etc. Besides the main purpose of achieving durability against the conditions of road and weather, reduction of production and maintenance costs is another purpose of these modifications. With this study, it has been aimed to modify bitumen by adding nigella pulp liquefied by means of pyrolysis method and to examine the effect of this admixture on the rheological properties of bitumen. The effects on the rheological properties have been determined with penetration, softening point, dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), rolling thin film oven test (RTFOT) and bending beam rheometer test (BBR).
