Öğe Recurrent Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome: A Case Report(2000) Aşkın, R.; Herken, H.; Derman, H.Background: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is an uncommon, but serious complication of antipsychotic drug treatment that is characterized by muscular rigidity, hyperthermia, altered state of consciousness and autonomic dysfunction. Design: A case of NMS that is characterized by recurrence due to patient's negligence during haloperidol treatment is reported. Aim: To discuss the management of recurrent NMS and choices of post-NMS treatment in the light of the literature. Conclusion: The culprit drug should be changed immediately after the diagnosis of NMS. An atypical antipsychotic drug would be the choice of treatment of psychotic symptoms.
