Öğe Analysis of cancer cases in Konya(2005) Genç M.; Avunduk M.C.This study has been carried out to estimate the number of cancer patients and the distribution of cancer types in Konya for planning of the prevention activities and radiotherapy equipment more cost effectively. The cancer cases were analysed by reviewing the records of all pathology centres in the province of Konya to estimate the incidence and histological distribution of tumors and 1523 cancer cases were found to be diagnosed in a period of one year. Overall cancer incidence was higher in males than in females (Age Standardised incidence rates of 121.1 and 94.7 per 100.000, respectively). Non-melanoma skin cancer was the most common cancer for both gender. While bladder, lung, colorectal and stomach cancers were the most frequent cancers in men; breast, colorectal, stomach cancers were the leading tumors in women. These estimates in the present study reflect the current burden of cancer in the period of instructing a new radiotherapy department in Konya.Öğe Brain damage after radiotherapy and treatment [Radyoterapi sonrasi beyin hasari ve tedavi yaklaşimlari](2006) Genç M.; Ergun U.; Selek U.Radiation-induced norotoxicity is a rare but serious complication. Although primary target cells are endothelial and glial cells, radiation-induced norotoxicity is thought to result from complex dynamic interactions between parenchymal and vascular cells within the central nervous system. Despite advances in imaging techniques, diagnosis of radiation necrosis remains as a challenge and definite diagnosis requires histopathological examination. Some cases show improvement after surgical resection. Corticosteroids are used both in prophylaxis and treatment. Currently, there are studies going on investigating the effects of many agents including growth factors and stem cells on prophylaxis and treatment of radiation-induced norotoxicity.Öğe Mediastinal paraganglioma with subsequent intracranial metastasis: A case report(2005) Özyar E.; Çetin E.; Genç M.; Üner A.; Atahan I.L.A 41-year-old man with unresectable mediastinal paraganglioma who subsequently developed multiple intracranial metastases is presented. This is the first case of intracranial metastases from mediastinal paraganglioma in literature. In general, intracranial metastases from paraganglioma of any location in the body are extremely rare, with only 3 other cases in the literature.
