Öğe Antimicrobial susceptibility and coagulase gene typing of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine clinical mastitis cases in Turkey(AMER DAIRY SCIENCE ASSOC, 2005) Guler, L; Ok, U; Gunduz, K; Gulcu, Y; Hadimli, HHThe objectives of this study were to determine antimicrobial resistance patterns of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from bovine clinical mastitis cases and to subtype the strains by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique based on coagulase gene polymorphism. Two hundred sixty-five S. aureus isolates collected from individual animals in different herds (n = 235) from 1995 to 2004 were tested for susceptibility to penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, oxacillin, oxytetracycline, enrofloxacin, kanamycin-cephalexin, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole using the agar disc diffusion test. Strains were also tested for beta-lactamase production. A total of 29.8% of the strains were susceptible to all antimicrobial agents tested. The highest resistance was observed in 63.3% of the strains against beta-lactam antibiotics, penicillin and ampicillin. Oxytetracycline resistance was observed in 27.9% of the strains, either alone or in combination with beta-lactams. No resistance was detected for amoxicillin-clavulanate, oxacillin, enrofloxacin and kanamycin-cephalexin. beta-Lactamase production and resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics were usually correlated. Resistance against beta-lactams increased from 43.5% in 1995 to 58 to 77% from 1999 to 2004. One hundred twenty-five strains were examined for coagulase gene polymorphism. The isolates were subtyped into 4 types by coagulase gene-based PCR. A predominant 1000-bp PCR product was observed in 60.8% of the isolates typed. The results indicate that a few coagulase gene types of S. aureus are responsible for the majority of bovine clinical mastitis cases in one province of Central Anatolia region, Turkey.Öğe Pattern reversal electroretinograms in patients with unilateral idiopathic full thickness macular holes(WICHTIG EDITORE, 1999) Gunduz, KPurpose. To discover the effect of detachment of the posterior vitreous cortex on pattern electroretinogram (PERG) P50 amplitudes in the uninvolved fellow eyes (FE) of patients with macular holes (MH), and to determine the prognostic value of the PERG in identifying the FE of patients with MH that could be at risk for the development of a MH. Methods. PERGs were recorded using 12' and 46' checkboard stimulus reversing at 5 Hz in 18 patients selected from a cohort of 37 patients with unilateral idiopathic full thickness MH, and in age-matched controls (AMC). Contact lens biomicroscopy with a Goldmann contact lens and kinetic B-scan ultrasonography were performed bilaterally in both patients and AMC. Results. The P50 amplitudes with checks of 12' and 46' were significantly lower in eyes with MH than in the uninvolved FE and AMC. There was a significant reduction in the P50 amplitudes in the FE compared to the AMC with checks of 12', but there was no significant reduction with checks of 46'. In the FE with posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) (eleven cases), the P50 amplitudes with checks of 12' were greater than in the eyes without PVD. With checks of 46', there was no significant difference in eyes with and without PVD. Conclusions. These data suggest that subclinical macular pathology in the FE of MH probably resulting from vitreous traction can be demonstrated by PERG using small check size stimulus.Öğe Tear film and meibomian gland functions in psoriasis(SCRIPTOR PUBLISHER, 1996) Zengin, N; Tol, H; Balevi, S; Gunduz, K; Okudan, S; Endogru, HTear secretion, tear film stability, and meibomian gland function (plugging, volume, and thickness) were assessed;in patients with psoriasis vulgaris (n = 70), As compared to that of the healthy controls (n = 125) mean Schirmer I value of psoriatic patients was found to be in normal ranges, whereas tear film break-up time was significantly lowered. When evaluating meibomian gland function, psoriatic patients were found to have higher plugging and thickness indices but a normal volume of meibomian gland secretion, These findings suggested an obstructive type of meibomian gland dysfunction in psoriatic patients which might result from increased turnover of the epithelia lining the meibomian gland duct.
