C.; Hamzaoglu, E.; Duran, A.The volatile constituents of Prangos pabularia Lindl. fruits (Umbelliferae) were obtained by hydrodistillation (HD) and microdistillation (MD) techniques, and then analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) methods. One hundred and twenty-eight compounds have been characterized representing 90.5% of hydrodistilled oil (HDO). In the microdistilled oil (MDO), 115 compounds constituting 93.0% of the oil were detected. alpha-Humulene (16.6% and 15.5%), bicyclogermacrene (16.1% and 7.9%), spathulenol (10.6% and 5.7%), germacrene D (5.7% and 2.9%) and alpha-pinene (4.2% and 23.9%) were found to be the major constituents of HDO and MDO, respectively. Antimicrobial activity of the oil was tested via microdilution broth technique. Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans were used as the test microorganisms. C.; Hamzaoglu, E.; Duran, A.The component composition of essential oils produced by steam distillation from flower heads, leaves, and stems of Salvia anatolica (Lamiaceae), a recently described new species endemic from Turkey, was studied by GC/FID and GC/MS. A total of 127 volatile components representing 96% of the oil was identified in essential oil from flower heads and leaves. It was found that the principal oil components of flower heads and leaves were alpha-pinene (10.9%), beta-pinene (6.7%), alpha-copaene (6.3%), heptacosane (6.2%), and hexadecanoic acid (5.0%). A total of 109 volatile compounds representing 87.9% of the oil was characterized in essential oil isolated from stems. The principal oil components of stems were identified as hexadecanoic acid (27.2%), tetradecanoic acid (15.2%), dodecanoic acid (5.5%), and alpha-copaene (5.0%).Öğe A new Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) species from Turkey(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2017) Uysal, T.; Hamzaoglu, E.A new Centaurea L. (Asteraceae) species from Turkey is described and illustrated. Centaurea mersinensis Uysal and Hamzaolu exists on calcareous slopes in Pinus brutia forests of Aydnck (Mersin) in southern Anatolia. It belongs to C. sect. Phalolepis (Cass.) DC., and taxonomically its closest relative is C. lycaonica. Diagnostic morphological characters from very similar taxa are provided, and a key is provided that includes related species of sect. Phalolepis from Turkey. The geographical distribution of the new species and relatives of the same section are mapped. The chromosome number of C. mersinensis, 2n=18, counted in root tips, is also reported and illustrated.
