Abstract The issue of ownership of land appears in many different ways throughout history. In certain periods, this property was under the monopoly of states and the rich, and they even owned everything on the land, including people. However, today, the number of privately owned lands has increased, and with the principle of social state as a basis, the idea that the state exists for the public benefit has begun to become widespread. As a result, the state can only intervene in private property when it is in the public interest. During the Tanzimat period, which was the century of codification of Ottoman law, important regulations were made regarding expropriation. In the article, expropriation regulations in Ottoman law were examined under separate subheadings in chronological order. Additionally, the transcription of all this legislation has been added to the article.
