The analysis was based on a relational scanning model, and conducted on 28 Roma and 29 non-Roma mothers and their children aged between 5 and 6 years, who live in Konya, Turkey. The Communication Skills Rating Scale (Korkut, 1996) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT, Dunn, 1959) were used and data were assessed using the Mann-Whitney U test. All rights reservedÖğe An Investigation of School Readiness and Receptive Language Levels of Roma and Non-Roma Children(INFORMATION ENGINEERING RESEARCH INST, USA, 2013) Cicekler, Canan Yildiz; Orcan, Maide; Aral, NerimanThe goal of this study is the comparison of the school readiness and receptive language levels of Roma and non-Roma children. The study is based on causal-comparative scanning model. The subjects of the study are the Roma (28 children) and non-Roma (28 children) in Konya city center who do not attend preschool. The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and Metropolitan Readiness Tests were used in the research. Because the data did not conform to normality assumption, they were evaluated by Mann Whitney U-test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient test. At the end of the study, significant differences between Roma and non-Roma children were observed both in school readiness and receptive language levels in favor of non-Roma children. Additionally, a positive correlation was observed between the school readiness and receptive language levels both in Roma and non-Roma children.
