Öğe Tavşanlarda Deneysel Oluşturulan Kornea Alkali Yanıklarının Sağaltımında Tarantula Cubensis Alkolik Ekstraktının Etkilerinin Araştırılması(Selçuk Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2022) Sulu, Kadir; Alkan, FahrettinIn this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of the treatment protocol including different ophthalmic uses of Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract (TCAE) on corneal healing in the medical treatment of experimentally induced corneal alkali burns in rabbits. The animal material of the study consisted of 42 male New Zealand rabbits. Rabbits were divided into control, Topical TCAE (T) and Subconjunctival TCAE (S) groups with equal and random sampling. The alkali burn model was created using 1 N (Normal) NaOH, limited to the corneal center of the right eyes. TCAE used for treatment; It was administered as 4 drops 4 times a day to the lesioned eyes of the rabbits in the T group, and 0.2 ml of subconjunctival injection was applied to the rabbits in the S group on days 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 of the study. Eye examinations were performed on days 0, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 14 of the study. In these examinations; tear amount, intraocular pressure, corneal opacity and corneal erosion area parameters were measured. On the 3rd and 14th days of the study, 7 rabbits from each group were euthanized. Corneal sections were prepared from inoculated eyeballs and histopathological examinations were performed. According to the examination findings; while no significant correlation could be detected between TCAE use and tear amount and intraocular pressure values, statistically significant results were obtained from corneal opacity and corneal erosion area measurements in line with the purpose of the study. In addition, the S group; as a result of clinical and histopathological examinations, it was determined that epithelial healing was the fastest and according to histometric measurements of stroma thickness, it was the group that reached the thickness closest to normal values during the study. As a result, it was observed that TCAE administered by subconjunctival injection provided reepithelialization more rapidly and adequately in the treatment of experimentally induced corneal alkali burns compared to the control group, while TCAE applied topically in the form of drops was not effective in the treatment. In addition, it was concluded that Theranekron is not suitable for use as direct drops on ocular surfaces due to its composition.
