IRON CAGE OF "CARTESIAN DUALISM" AND THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY UNDERSTOOD BY WEBER

In his book, "Max Weber and Islam" Bryan S. Turner criticizes Weber for not keeping the criteria of his interpretivist sociology when explaining Islam and Muslim societies. According to Turner, Weber's views on Islam are not too much different from Marx's evaluations. Turner usually refers to the theory of patrimonialism, which is designed by Weber when investigating Eastern societies. He thinks that this concept is related to Weber's orientalist prejudice. That is why, in this text, a brief explanation of Cartesian philosophy, which is followed by a wider mass and which opens a wide-ranged discussion in the philosophy of the social sciences, will be briefly explained and discussed. One example about the handicaps of Western thought style is subjected. An evaluation is made about the view of science which belongs to Weber. A discussion is maintained through the book of Turner, who asserts the influence of the positivist paradigm while examining Islamic societies. The handicap of this dualism, which is thought that Weber was effected by, is dealt with.
