Öğe Fetuin-A, inflammation, and coronary artery calcification in hemodialysis patients(2011) Turkmen K.; Gorgulu N.; Uysal M.; Ozkok A.; Sakaci T.; Unsal A.; Yildiz A.Hemodialysis patients have extremely increased cardiovascular mortality. Vascular calcification, inflammation, and low serum fetuin-A levels are implicated for increased mortality. In this study, relationship between coronary artery calcification, inflammation, and serum fetuin-A levels were investigated. Seventy-eight hemodialysis patients (38 male, 40 female, mean age: 52±14.5 years) were included. All patients were on dialysis for more than 6 months. Coronary artery calcium scores (CACS) are determined by electron-beam computed tomography. Serum CRP, IL-1?, IL-6, TNF-?, and serum fetuin-A levels were measured. Mean CACS value was 488.5±94.5. Serum fetuin-A levels were negatively correlated with CACS (r. -0.30, P=0.009). Patients are divided into two groups according to total CACS value; group 1 (CACS<10), group 2 (CACS?10). There was a statistically significance difference in fetuin-A levels between CACS group 1 and group 2 (P=0.001). In this study, serum fetuin-A levels were associated with total CACS. This Fetuin-A may play a role in increased mortality in this group of patients via facilitating CAC.Öğe Quality of relationship on information technology outsourcing for organizational success in hospitality industry(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2014) Sukru Cetinkaya A.; Ergul M.; Uysal M.Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the effects of vendor – client relationship on organizational success in the hospitality industry. The relationship between vendors and clients regarding information technology outsourcing does not always go in harmony. In the viewpoint of hospitality practitioners, information technology (IT) providers do not necessarily abide by the given promises stated on contracts, all the time. The service flows, which are mostly generated by the lack of quality relationship between vendors and clients directly affect hotels’ organizational performance.Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected by an online survey and analyzed using multivariable statistics (path analysis) to determine the effects of service quality and relationship quality on outsourcing success, and its effect on organizational performance. Data from 102 valid responses received from ten different countries, representing 230 hotels in total were analyzed.Findings – Service quality and relationship quality, which are two dimensions of outsourcing relationships, were found to be positively related to outsourcing success (r = 0.60 and 0.70, p < 0.01, respectively) and intangible organizational performance (r = 0.20, p < 0.05; 0.26 and 0.27, p < 0.01, respectively).Research limitations/implications – The research was designed to investigate the IT outsourcing service receiver’s (client) perspective. The IT service provider’s (vendor) perspective is disregarded. Disturbance results are very high (i.e. more than 0.95). This may well be the case that certain facets of the outsourcing success construct are not adequately represented by the chosen indicators. Research results may reveal an idea about the research subject, in general, but may not be generalized to the wholeindustry due to its sampling size. Finally, the survey was conducted online, and all online research restrictions were applicable to this research such as receiving very limited response rates.Practical implications – The results of this research provide important information for practitioners in the hospitality industry and IT service providers. Relationship quality between vendor and client was observed to be the most determinant factor in IT outsourcing success.Social implications – The proposed model may well serve as a framework for further examining mediating and possible moderating variables.Originality/value – There is limited research in the previous literature investigating the relationship between information technology vendor and client, in terms of service quality and relationship quality in hospitality industry. This paper may serve to fill in this gap. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.Öğe A spatial analysis of traditional konya bazaar from a historical perspective [Tarihsel süreçte geleneksel konya çarşisi için bir mekânsal analiz a spatial analysis of traditional konya bazaar from a historical perspective](2010) Uysal M.Konya, located on important trade routes throughout history, has been an important trading city during Seljuk reign and continued to be so during the Ottoman reign as well. The bazaar was dispersed over a vast area in the city and trade spaces of classical Turkish pattern were observed. Traditional Konya Bazaar is located almost over the same lot during Seljuk and Ottoman reigns and the Turkish Republic period. The bedesten and hans which determined the spatial organisation of Konya Bazaar and the long market street over which the development of the marketplace was based have been demolished during the rearrangement process that took place in late 19th and 20th centuries. However, Konya Bazaar retained its physical pattern until 1950s in view of street texture and spatial organisation. Especially after the 1980s a radical change started with the construction of multi-story trade buildings over the marketplace. Konya Bazaar embodied novel trade functions necessitated by the period and underwent a transformation in view of space and services offered. The individual applications on the bazaar have resulted in a corruption in the texture silhouette and a merger of the old texture with the new structures was not attained. However, it has been observed that Konya Bazaar preserves its physical, social and cultural attributes even today, although partially.Öğe Traditional building formations of apiaries in the antalya province in turkey [Tradicijska graditeljska forma pèelinjaka u pokrajini antaliji u turskoj](2013) Uysal M.; Arat Y.In this paper, "bee yards" are studied in view of the relationship between vernacular architecture and biomimicry. The bee yards, as architectural forms of vernacular architecture for animals, are located around Elmali{dotless} district of Antalya. This study aims to investigate how much the natural elements and ecological system of the honey bee affect the formation of bee yards. Analyses of biomimicry measures (on the organism level, behavior level, and ecosystem level) as determined by Maibritt Pedersen Zari in 2007 were conducted in order to illustrate this phenomenon.Öğe Vernacular architectural heritage of turkish folk culture "Beeyards" [Türk halk kültürünün yerel mi?mari? mi?rasi "ari serenleri?"](Milli Folklor Dergisi, 2014) Uysal M.; Arat Y.Agriculture is the most important factor for mankind as it started the transition from sedentary lifestyle to nomadic lifestyle. Humans learned to take honey from the natural haunt of honeybees when they were gatherers. The Bo?azköy excavations in Anatolia showed that apiculture was an important agricultural activity during the Hittites in 1300 B.C. It is determined that Turks used honey and honey products and accepted it as medicine and healing food during their nomadic period. The real aim to build shelters for honeybees is attaining protection from natural effects and animal harms. The "Ari{dotless} Serenleri (Bee Yards)" that have a unique formation as architectural elements are located in Sö?le Plateau in Elmali{dotless} County of Antalya city in Turkey. Except these examples similar architectural formations are observed in some regions of the Taurus mountains in Anatolia. The architectural formation of bee yards was based on antique facts (Lykia graves), in many researches however this situation determined from the formal similarity does not seem realistic. Every society has its unique architectural formations based on nature. In this study, we have aimed at using previously neglected structural, local and oral sources for making a novel architectural documentation that does not exist in literature. In this context, it is asserted that the structural similarities discussed in earlier studies remain invalis since these structures are architectural elements of local culture. The applied method includes; a comprehensive literature review, gathering and evaluating etymological information on the use of the word "seren", and documentation work undertaken at the site (interviews, reliefs and photographing) and finally the studying of these architectural formations in view of the gathered data. As a result of our study, it is determined that the architectural formation of bee yards were based on vernacular models for supplying the needs of settlers and the similarities with Lycian tombs were not based on objective, scientific grounds. Moreover, it was also discovered that the tradition of constructing bee yards came to an end during 1960s and there were no builders that build bee yards. It was observed that only one bee yard remained in use and others were both structurally and functionally in very poor condition as well as these architectural elements of vernacular folk culture would be preserved.
