Öğe Calcified intracranial hydatid cyst: case report(2011) Köktekir E.; Erdem Y.; Gökçek C.; Karatay M.; Yilmaz A.; Bayar M.A.; Sümer S.We present a 26-year-old patient who did farming related work had an asymptomatic intracranial hydatid cyst. A calcified intracranial cystic mass was found on radiological investigations and the patient underwent surgery. The mass was totally excised. The histopathology result reported a hydatid cyst. There were no postoperative complications. Calcification is quite rare in cerebral hydatid cyst. The computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging provide information that is especially useful for preoperative diagnosis. Observing membrane detachment and daughter cysts during these investigations is pathognomonic. The presence of calcification in the cyst wall and intracystic membranes indicated hydatid cyst.Öğe Carbon monoxide poisoning presenting with atrial fibrillation [Karbonmonoksit zehirlenmesine bağlı gelişen atriyal fibrilasyon](TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, 2015) Avci A.; Yilmaz A.; Demir K.; Celik M.; Karatas R.Carbon monoxide intoxication is one of the most common types of poisoning and it is the leading cause of death by poisoning in the world. We report a carbon monoxide intoxication case presenting with atrial fibrillation on 17 years old healthy boy. 17 years old boy admitted to emergency service after exposuring carbon monoxide gas approximately 3 hours. His first electrocardiography (ECG) showed atrial fibrillation with rapidly ventricular response. After oxygen supply sinus rhythm was achieved spontaneously. Emergency physicians should be aware of the clinical presentation of carbon monooxide intoxication. Every patient that arrived emergency service with acute or chronically carbon monoxide poisoning should undergo cardiovascular investigation, including ECG and measurement of cardiac enzymes. © 2015, TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI. Materials and Methods: Twelve pairs of extracted mandibular premolars with oval-shaped root canals were randomly divided into two groups. The first group was biomechanically prepared with ProTaper Universal files, while the self-adjusting file system was used in the second group. The roots were better filled using cold lateral compaction of gutta-percha. Apical microleakage was measured with the computerized fluid filtration method. The results were analyzed statistically using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: All of the roots in both groups showed leakage. Group 1 demonstrated significantly less microleakage (p<0.05). Conclusions: Instrumentation of oval-shaped canals using a self-adjusting file system with cold lateral compaction of gutta-percha demonstrated significantly greater apical microleakage when compared to ProTaper Universal. The apical leakage with different filling techniques, combined with self-adjusting files, should be evaluated in further studies.Öğe The frequency of erectile dysfunction between diabetic and non-diabetic men: Case-control study [Şeker hastal??? olan ve olmayan erkeklerde erektil disfonksiyon s?kl???: Olgu-kontrol çal?şmas?](2008) Yilmaz A.; Kutlu R.; Çivi S.Introduction: We aimed to research the frequency and affecting factors of erectile dysfunction (ED) among diabetic men and non-diabetic men in a control group in this study. Materials and Methods: 100 diabetic men and 100 non-diabetic men were included in this case-control study. In the case and control group, the questionnaire was applied to determine the socio-demographic features. Diabetic group was examined about diabetic features and complications resulting from diabetes. The questionnaire of Sexual Health Inventory For Men (SHIM), which has five questions was carried out to examine erectile dysfunction. The patients who had <18 SHIM score were accepted as erectile dysfunction positive. Results: The prevalence of ED was 76.0% in diabetic group and 32.0% in control group. The prevalence of ED among diabetic group was significantly higher than control group (p<0.001). Statistically, significant relationship was found between two groups related to the incidence of ED, age distribution, job and education levels (p<0.05). Statistically there was also significant relationship between ED and the type of diabetes (p=0.002) and duration of diabetes (p=0.032) in the diabetic group. Conclusion: Diabetes caused an obvious elevation in the prevalence of ED, significant relationship was found between the duration of diabetes and ED. The frequency of ED among diabetic men was 6.7 times higher than non-diabetics. The doctors have to alert the patients about ED, emphasize the importance of giving education and planning the treatment about diabetes to the patients due to regulation of diabetes.Öğe Growth characteristics of Kangal and Akbaş Turkish shepherd dogs [Kangal ve Akbaş irki türk çoban köpeklerinde büyüme özellikleri](2003) Tepeli C.; Çetin O.; Inal Ş.; Kirikçi K.; Yilmaz A.This study was performed to compare the growth characteristics of Kangal and Akbaş Turkish shepherd dogs. Live weight records of 141 puppies at birth, 86 puppies at weaning, 68 puppies at 6 and 12 months of age and four different body measurements of 68 dogs at different ages were used for determining growth characteristics. The least squares method was used for statistical analysis. Least squares mean weights of Kangal and Akbaş puppies at birth, weaning, and 6 and 12 months of age were 557.21 and 506.95 g, 5657.35 and 4457.70 g, 21.58 and 19.38 kg, 40.89 and 37.66 kg, respectively. At age 1 year, in Kangal and Akbaş dogs, the average shoulder height was 70.54 and 65.91 cm, rump height was 71.27 and 66.66 cm, body length was 64.05 and 59.43 cm, and body circumference was 78.10 and 71.86 cm, respectively. In conclusion, it was determined that Kangal dogs were superior to Akbaş dogs with respect to all growth characteristics (P < 0.05).Öğe Investigation of genetic diversity and paternity in kangal white karaman rams using microsatellite markers(Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi, 2012) Kurar E.; Bulut Z.; Çağlayan T.; Garip M.; Yilmaz A.; Nizamlioğlu M.The objectives of this study were to estimate genetic diversity and test possibility of conducting paternity testing at the DNA level as part of a breeding project of Kangal White Karaman sheep. As a pilot study, blood samples were collected from 13 rams that were used for breeding purposes in two different flocks in which level of inbreeding is proposed to be high. A total of 20 microsatellite markers were used to amplify genomic DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The resulting PCR products were separated by capillary electrophoresis and allele genotypes were determined. A total of 99 different alleles were determined ranging from 1 to 8 at each locus. The observed (Ho) and expected heterozygosities (He) values were ranged from 0.000 to 0.923 and from 0.000 to 0.871, respectively. Polymorphism information content (PIC) values were between 0.000 and 0.818. Total power of exclusion (PE) value was calculated as 0.999975 for twenty loci. Our results suggested that a panel, including the most informative twelve loci provides a total PE value of 0.999828, can be useful for parentage testing in Kangal White Karaman sheep.Öğe Role of tenoxicam in the prevention of postlaminectomy peridural fibrosis in rats [Ratlarda laminektomi sonrasi{dotless} peridural fibrozisin önlenmesinde tenoksikami{dotless}n rolü](2013) Karatay M.; Celik H.; Koktekir E.; Karatay E.; Sertbas I.; Yilmaz A.; Caydere M.Aim: The reason behind failed back syndrome in some cases may be peridural fibrosis following spinal surgery. Many attempts have been shown to stop formation of peridural fibrosis. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit the inflammatory and fibroblastic response. One of the most effective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is tenoxicam, an oxicam derivative. This study suggests that topical application of tenoxicam is an effective way of preventing spinal peridural fibrosis developing after laminectomy in rats. Material and Methods: In this study, 20 Wistar rats were used. Rats were divided into two groups; a control group, and a tenoxicam group. Three-level laminectomy was implemented on the rats. Rats in the control group only had the laminectomy. In the tenoxicam group, 0.5 mg/kg tenoxicam, which was watered down in 0.9% NaCl with a factor of 1:10 soaked on cotton, was applied on the dura topically for 5 minutes. Three weeks later, rats were killed for histopathologic examination and peridural fibrosis tissue was classified afterwards. Results: Statistically, it was found that three weeks after surgery, the tenoxicam group had significantly less peridural fibrosis compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Tenoxicam significantly reduced the spinal peridural fibrosis that developed in rats after laminectomy.
