Öğe The Anxiety Levels of the Parents of Premature Infants and Related Factors(GALENOS YAYINCILIK, 2017) Celen, Raziye; Arslan, Fatma TasAim: The aim was to determine the anxiety levels of parents with premature infants and related factors. Materials and Methods: This comparative descriptive study was conducted in the neonatal intensive care unit of four hospitals located in Konya, Turkey between March and April 2012 with the parents (n=194; 97 mothers, 97 fathers) of premature infants who were 32-37 weeks gestational. Data were collected using Parents and Infant Information Form prepared by the researchers, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Scale. Results: The mean state anxiety scores of the mothers and fathers were similar (p>0.05). The mothers had higher mean trait anxiety scores compared to the fathers and this difference was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was observed that parents with premature infants experienced mild anxiety.Öğe Babies Teething Process and Practices for Problems During This Term(GALENOS YAYINCILIK, 2018) Celen, Raziye; Arslan, Fatma TasTeething is a physiological process that all children experience. Even though this period is a normal part of babies development, interestingly little is known about management of symptoms. Dry cough, crabbing, sleeping disorder, gingival inflammation, and salivation are among the most common symptoms observed during milk dentition. However, even though fever, diarrhea, and several numbers of other complaints are not adequate evidences, teething period is commonly considered responsible. Although pain and discomfort related to baby teething can be managed by using pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods, inadequate evidence regarding these draws attention. The purpose of this study is to determine problems faced by babies during teething period and support approaches of parents.Öğe The Effects of Nursing Interventions Based on Mishel’s Theory of Uncertainty in Illness on the Caregivers of Children Diagnosed with Cancer: A Randomized Controlled Trial(Selçuk Üniversitesi, 2022) Ozkan, Sevil; Arslan, Fatma TasAim: To investigate the effects of nursing interventions based on Mishel’s Uncertainty in Illness Theory (MUIT) on uncertainty, hopelessness, coping with and adaptation for caregivers of children diagnosed with cancer. Materials and Methods: The study was a randomized controlled experimental design study, which had repeated measures (pretest-posttest-follow up) and parallel group (intervention-control), and it included measures of uncertainty (PPUS), hopelessness (BHS), coping with and adaptation (CAPS). The study was conducted in January-July 2019 with the caregivers of 46 (Intervention Group: 23; Control Group: 23) children diagnosed with cancer and followed in paediatric oncology-haematology clinics. Intervention Group (IG) was given 6 modules education and consultancy according to protocol that was developed based on theory. The CONSORT guideline was performed in the study. The data of the research were evaluated by using descriptive statistics, Chi-squared test, independent samples t-test, repeated measures two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: PPUS post-test mean score of IG was lower than CG (p<0.05), and perceptions of uncertainty decreased significantly over time depending on the caregivers being in the IG and CG (p<0.05). It was determined that BHS post-test and follow-up mean scores of IG was lower (less hopelessness perception) than the CG (p<0.05). CAPS’ post-test and the follow-up mean scores were similar in IG and CG. Also, Group*time effect on hopelessness, coping and adaptation perception was statistically similar, too. Conclusion: Nursing interventions based on MUIT can positively support caregivers’ uncertainty, hopelessness and coping adaptations.Öğe MORAL SENSITIVITY, ETHICAL EXPERIENCES AND RELATED FACTORS OF PEDIATRIC NURSES: A CROSS-SECTIONAL, CORRELATIONAL STUDY(UNIV CHILE, CENTRO INTERDISCIPLINARIO ESTUDIOS BIOETICA, 2018) Arslan, Fatma Tas; Calpbinici, PelinThe aim of this study is to determine the ethical experiences and the level of moral sensitivity and related factors of pediatric nurses working in hospital settings. Designed as descriptive and cross-sectional, the study was undertaken at three public hospitals in Konya and Ankara, Turkey and included the participation of a total of 200 pediatric nurses. The Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire (MSQ) was used for evaluation of the ethical sensitivities of the nurses. Of the 200 nurses, 46.5% had working experience of between 1-5 years, 58% were married, 18.6% had not undergone any ethics education, and 59.5% held a bachelor's degree. A large majority (95%) of the pediatric nurses reported that they had encountered ethical problems. The mean moral sensitivity score of the nurses was 95.89 +/- 24.34, with higher scores in this area being observed in the nurses who were in the older age group and had worked longer than others (p<0.05). The mean moral sensitivity score of the nurses was determined to be at a medium level and was found to be influenced by the age group they were in and the length of time they had worked.Öğe Nursing students' perceptions of caring in Turkey(DRUNPP-SARAJEVO, 2012) Kursun, Serife; Arslan, Fatma TasPurpose: To determine perception of caring and its contributing factors in nursing students. Method: The study was descriptive-correlation type. Students from a 4-year undergraduate nursing program in a university in Turkey were included in this study. The second-year through fourth-year student volunteers were interviewed to explore caring behavior in nursing students. This study was carried out through 233 students. The demographic data questionnaire and Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 were completed by students themselves in the classroom. Results: While total score in perception of students of caring, who were satisfied with nursing department, who found nursing appropriate profession for themselves, and who described caring in nursing as one of the major areas was higher, mean total score of students who had difficulty in providing care and that of second-year students was lower. Conclusions: It is determined that perception of caring is affected by the characteristics of the students.Öğe Quality of Life and Chemotherapy-related Symptoms of Turkish Cancer Children Undergoing Chemotherapy(ASIAN PACIFIC ORGANIZATION CANCER PREVENTION, 2013) Arslan, Fatma Tas; Basbakkal, Zumrut; Kantar, MehmetThis cross-sectional and descriptive study was designed to determine symptoms emerging due to chemotherapy treatment and their effects on children's quality of life. The research was carried out between February 2008 and February 2009 at the pediatric oncology clinics in four hospitals, focusing on 93 patients receiving chemotherapy. A survey form, the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL 4.0) and the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (MSAS) were used as data collection tools. Chi-square and Student t tests were performed for data analysis. Some 51.6% of the children were aged 13-15 years old, and 51.8% were boys and 50.5% were diagnosed as having solid tumors. There were significant relations between: antimetabolite chemotherapeutics and feeling irritable and worrying (p=0.001, p=0.030); vinkoalkaloid and numbness/tingling in hands/feet (p=0.043); antracyclines and lack of energy and skin changes (p=0.021, p=0.004); and corticosteroids and lack of appetite, nausea and sadness (p=0.008, p=0.009, p=0.009). Several symptoms such as feeling sad, worrying and feeling irritable caused a significant decrease in the total domain of quality of life scores (p=0.034, p=0.012, p=0.010, respectively). Chemotherapeutic drugs can cause symptoms that can seriously affect quality of life in children.
