Öğe Antimicrobial Susceptibilities of Salmonella Strains Isolated From Clinical Specimens in Konya Province Between 1998-2000(2001) Tuncer, I.; Fındık, D.; Erdem, B.; Arslan, U.In this study, a total of 50 Salmonella strains isolated from 48 feces and 2 blood samples in the microbiology laboratory of Konya Selçuk University Hospital, from January 1998 till May 2000, have been serotyped. Twenty nine of these strains were identified as S. typhimurium (1,4,5,12:i:1,2) and 21 of them as S. enteritidis (9,12:g,m:-). Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method according to NCCLS criteria. All of the S. typhimurium strains were found to be susceptible to cefepime, ceftazidime and ciprofloxacin, while susceptibilities to imipenem, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, cefuroxime, chloramphenicol and tetracycline were 96.5%, 82.8%, 56.5%, 24.1% and 6.9%, respectively. The susceptibilities of S. enteritidis isolates against cefepime, ceftazidime, imipenem and ciprofloxacin were 100%, whereas the susceptibility rates for trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and chloramphenicol, cefuroxime, tetracycline and ampicillin were 76.2%, 42.9%, 14.3% and 4.8%, respectively.Öğe Bis-Schiff Base Derivatives of 2,5-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde: Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Their Cu(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) Complexes(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2013) Sahin, M.; Kocak, N.; Arslan, U.; Sahin, O.; Yilmaz, M.In this study, three Schiff base ligands (N,N-Bis(2,5-dihydroxybenzylidene)-4,4- diaminodiphenylmethane (DHDPM), N,N-Bis(2,5-dihydroxybenzylidene)- 1,2- diaminoethane (DHSalen) and N,N-Bis(2,5-dihydroxybenzylidene)- 1,3-phenylenedimethanamine (DHSalomphen)) and their metal complexes were synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR), fluorescence spectra, elemental analysis and magnetic susceptibility apparatuses. The antibacterial activity was also studied against Staphylococcus aureusATCC 29213, Streptococcus mutansRSHM 676, Enterococcus faecalisATCC 29212, Lactobacillus acidophilus RSHM 06029, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Pseudomonas aeruginosaATCC 27853.Öğe Escherichia vulneris Peritonitis in a Patient on CAPD(MULTIMED INC, 2008) Arslan, U.; Cosar, M.; Tuncer, I.; Findik, D.[Abstract not Available]Öğe First case of peritonitis due to Abiotrophia defectiva(MULTIMED INC, 2006) Arslan, U.; Guney, I.; Yuksekkaya, S.; Atalay, H.; Dagy, H. G.; Arslan, U.; Yurtsever, S. G.Infections and outbreaks of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) still appear to be rare in Turkey In the present study. VRE strains isolated during an outbreak in a haematology unit of a training and research hospital in Turkey were typed and their antimicrobial-resistance patterns were characterized by molecular methods Twelve vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faeciurn strains isolated from patients with haematological malignancies were investigated by PCR for the presence of genes encoding resistance to vancomycin. tetracycline, chloramphenicol, gentamicin and erythromycin Their clonal relationship was evaluated by PFGE and multilocus sequence typing. All strains were resistant to vancomycin and erythromycin, and had the vanA and ermB genes, respectively. PFGE was used to determine the presence of two pulsotypes and determine their subtypes. Pulsotype A belonged to sequence type (ST) 17 and pulsotype B belonged to ST 78. All strains with the vanA gene were not the same clone, indicating multiple acquisitions of resistant isolates, even over such a short time period.Öğe VITEK 2 and PHOENIX fail to detect high-level gentamicin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolates with aac-aph gene(MEDKNOW PUBLICATIONS, 2011) Arslan, U.; Tuncer, I.; Findik, D.; Bozdogan, B.[Abstract not Available]
