Öğe Consumer's Willingness to Pay for Organic Chicken Meat in Samsun Province of Turkey(MEDWELL ONLINE, 2011) Gunduz, Orhan; Bayramoglu, ZekiThe study aimed to determine consumers willingness to pay extra money for organically raised chicken meat rather than conventionally raised chicken meat. Research data was collected from randomly selected 150 households in Samsun province by using contingent valuation survey method. We used an ordered probit approach for identifying consumer characteristics and attitudes that influence the WTP for organically raised chicken meat. Research results revealed that 81% of the respondents would be willing to pay a premium for organically raised chicken meat. The ordered probit model results showed that willingness to pay was mainly related to tree socio-economic factors which are monthly household income, education level of household head and monthly conventionally raised chicken meat consumption together with 2 attitude factors which are whether previously organic food consumption in the household and respondents opinion about risks of conventionally raised chicken meat to human health. These factors were statistically significant and had positive effect on the WTP.Öğe Cost-benefit analysis of angora goat production in Turkey: the cases of Konya and Karaman Provinces(KAFKAS UNIV, VETERINER FAKULTESI DERGISI, 2010) Celik, Yusuf; Bayramoglu, ZekiThe profitability of Angora goat breeding enterprises was analyzed in this study. According to the findings of the research study, the number of the Angora goats, which was 1.3 million in 1990, fell to 158.168 in 2008. According to the managers of the farms carrying out Angora goat production, the most effective factor in the decrease of the number of Angora goats was the decrease in mohair prices. It was found that in farms performing goat production, the average size of herds was 43.4 heads and the average available land was 19.69 ha. In Angora goat production, the ratio of gross profit to production value was 48.73%, while the ratio of net profit to production value was 13.49%. The Angora goat production value consisted of 54.56% inventory value increases, 39.10% milk production value and 6.34% mohair value. While mohair was the main source of income in the years between 1960 and 1970; currently it has become a source of supplementary income as mohair prices have not increased at a desired rate.Öğe The Effect of Agricultural Support on the Economic Sustainability of Agricultural Enterprises(UNIV FED RURAL PERNAMBUCO, DEPT ADMINISTRACAO, 2017) Arisoy, Hasan; Bayramoglu, Zeki; Karakayaci, Zuhal; Oguz, CennetThe aim of this study is to research the economic sustainability of agricultural enterprises and the effect of public support on them. Konya province, which is one of the most important agricultural areas in Turkey, was chosen as the study area. A survey was undertaken covering 181 enterprises identified using the stratified sampling method. The phenomenon of sustainable income was defined in order to determine the economic sustainability of agricultural enterprises. The study results, based on the average, suggest that sustainable income can be achieved without public support. However, the level of sustainable income differs by enterprise size group. It was observed that enterprises in the first and second groups (0-50 da, 51-150 da) are not economically sustainable despite public support. However, some enterprises that have applied intensive farming and livestock production did achieve a sustainable income level. Rural industry must be promoted and demand created, to ensure economic sustainability and prevent socio-economic problems by including livestock production activities, utilizing economies of scale, raising awareness of organizational behavior, developing products suitable for the region's ecology and economic structure with contract production and dissemination of alternative income-generating production activities.Öğe The effect of EurepGAP standards on energy input use: A comparative analysis between certified and uncertified greenhouse tomato producers in Turkey(PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2009) Bayramoglu, Zeki; Gundogmus, ErdemirThe aim of this study was to compare the energy use on greenhouse tomato production between EurepGAP certified and uncertified producer groups in Turkey in terms of energy ratio, benefit/cost ratio and amount of renewable energy use. Total energy requirement on EurepGAP certified producers group was 90,288.5 MJ/ha whereas 126,311.5 MJ/ha was consumed on uncertified producers group i.e. 29% higher energy input was used on uncertified producers than that of certified ones. The energy ratio of 0.79 and 0.72 were achieved on EurepGAP certified and uncertified tomato producer groups, respectively. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. The theory behind the equation used to calculate a sustainable income is explained. The ecological, technical, social and economic components of sustainability in agricultural enterprises have been identified and discussed and the importance of economic sustainability in terms of achieving total sustainability has been emphasised. Economic sustainability was divided into three components incorporating the income needed to meet the cost of living and to address depreciation and interest costs for the enterprise. Those enterprises that achieved this income level were determined to be economically sustainable. For this purpose, data was collected by using a face-to-face survey method with 181 agricultural enterprises operating in Konya and analysed in line with the purpose of the study. According to the results of our analysis, it was observed that more than 150 enterprises were not sustainable.Öğe The impact of changes in Turkey's hazelnut policy on world markets(ACADEMIC JOURNALS, 2010) Bayramoglu, Zeki; Ozer, O. Orkan; Gundogmus, Erdemir; Tatlidil, F. FusunThe present study analyzes the manner in which changes in Turkey's hazelnut policies shall affect the world hazelnut markets via price impacts of these policy changes. For this aim, a multi-region partial equilibrium model for Turkey, Italy, Spain, USA and Germany, the main participants in the world hazelnut market, was developed. Since most of the world hazelnut production and export belongs to Turkey, export prices of Turkey were accepted as data for the world markets. In the model, the manner in which changes in Turkey's hazelnut policies reflects upon the international markets via prices was explained. Besides, scenarios with regard to Turkey's possible policy changes were given and with the help of the estimated model, future conditions of exports and imports of the countries participating in the international hazelnut market were estimated. According to the model results, it is expected that a decrease in Turkey's hazelnut production areas would lead to an increase of its effectiveness in international markets. The decrease in production areas shall raise the prices. However, it is expected that prices remaining stable shall increase the amount of hazelnut exports of Turkey. Therefore, this situation shall increase Turkey's hazelnut export income and decrease other exporter countries' exports and their impact on the market. In order to achieve these results, legal arrangements done by Turkey with respect to narrowing the production areas should be successfully implemented.Öğe The impact of EurepGAP requirements on farm income from greenhouse tomatoes in Turkey(ACADEMIC JOURNALS, 2010) Bayramoglu, Zeki; Gundogmus, Erdemir; Tatlidil, F. FusunThe aim of this study was to determine whether a difference existed between the income levels of farmers with EurepGAP certificates and farmers who produce conventionally ( without a certificate). The data were collected from 16 certified households that produce tomatoes in greenhouses in the Antalya Province and 33 uncertified greenhouse farms who were chosen randomly in the same region. All data was analysed using the partial budget method. When comparing the economic performances of certified tomato producers with the economic performances of uncertified tomato producers, the certified group can be summarized as the ones who have lower productivity, spend less and obtain a higher level of net income. EurepGAP certified tomato producers were determined to have a net income that is 2.8 times more per unit area compared to uncertified tomato producers.
