    Effects of curcumin on a renal ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats

    This study aimed to investigate the biochemical and histopathological effects of curcumin on Renal Ischemia/ReperfusionInjury. Twenty-four female Wistar rats were used in the study and divided into control (C), sham, ischemia/reperfusion(I/R), and curcimin (CUR) groups (n6). Laparotomy was performed under general anesthesia in I/R and CUR groupsthan the left renal pedicle was dissected it was clamped. Then, 1-h ischemia and 6-h reperfusion were applied. 500 mg/kgCurcumin was given intraperitoneally to the CUR group after ischemia application. MPO, IMA, MDA, NO, SOD, GPx,AOS, urea, and creatinine levels were measured in serum samples. MPO, MDA, NO, SOD, GPx, and AOS were alsomeasured in tissue samples. The histopathological examination was performed. Serum and tissue AOS levels weresignificantly higher in the CUR group than in the I/R group (P0.05). Tissue NO levels were significantly lower in theCUR group than in the I/R group (15.305.41 and 4.81.37, respectively) (P0.05). Histopathological scores were alsosignificantly lower in the CUR group than in the I/R group (P0.05). The results showed that curcumin prevented I/Rdamage by decreasing oxidative stress in serum and tissue samples in rat renal I/R model.

    Oral squamous cell carcinoma with lymph node metastasis in a 12 years-old sphynx female cat

    Bu raporda, 12 yaşında Sfenks ırkı dişi bir kedide lenf nodu metastazı olan oral yassı hücreli karsinom (OYHK) olgusu tanımlanmıştır. Mandibular lenf nodu tamamen çıkarıldı ve diseke edildi (lenfadenektomi). Ağız mukozasındaki nekrotik-ülserli kitle ekstirpe edildi. Oral kitlede, atipik hücresel özelliklere sahip pleomorfik yassı epitel hücreleri, erozyonlar ve ülserler de gözlendi. Mandibular lenf nodunda belirgin atipik hücre özelliklerine sahip yassı epitel hücreleri bulundu. İmmunohistokimyasal incelemede neoplastik hücrelerin AE1-AE3 ve sitokeratin 5/6 için pozitif olduğu görüldü. Ağız mukozasında erozyon ve ülserlerle seyreden kronik gingivostomatitisli köpek ve kedilerin OYHK açısından da değerlendirilmesi gerektiğine dikkat çekmek amacıyla olgunun sunulması uygun bulunmuştur
