Öğe Leptin response to oral glucose tolerance test in obese and nonobese premenopausal women(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2005) Cakir, M; Sari, R; Tosun, O; Karayalcin, UThe objective of this study was to investigate the serum leptin response to oral glucose stimulation in a group of obese and nonobese normotensive, normolipidemic, and glucose-tolerant Premenopausal women. Twenty-one obese (BMI: 3 7.7 +/- 63 kg/m(2)) and 14 nonbese (BMI: 21.5 +/- 1.0 kg/m(2)) age-matched, healthy premenopausal women were included in the study. Serum glucose, insulin, and leptin Levels were measured at 30 min intervals during the 120 min of an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Mean serum glucose, insulin, and leptin levels were significantly higher in the obese group compared to nonobese subjects during OGTT. Except for a 120 min decrement noted in obese women, no changes occurred in serum leptin levels during oral glucose stimulation in both groups. As a conclusion, absence of a significant elevation in serum leptin levels during OGTT in our obese subjects compared to nonobese subjects may be related to their normal metabolic variables despite being abdominally obese and insulin resistant.Öğe Marine-Lenhart syndrome(NATL MED ASSOC, 2005) Cakir, MGraves' disease and toxic nodular goiter both cause thyrotoxicosis by different pathophysiological mechanisms. Cases with both etiologies have the diagnosis of Marine-Lenhart syndrome. Such a case is presented in this paper.Öğe RF-assisted cystectomy and pericystectomy: A new technique in the treatment of liver hydatid disease(KARGER, 2006) Sahin, M; Kartal, A; Haykir, R; Cakir, MBackground. Radiofrequency (RF) energy has been used for ablation and resection of liver tumors. Purpose: To present a new technique for the treatment of liver hydatid cyst disease. Material and Methods: Two patients with liver hydatid disease treated with RF energy cauterization and surgical resection are presented. Cystectomy was performed in a female patient aged 35 years and pericystectomy was carried out in another female patient aged 55 years using RF energy cauterization. Blood was not needed during the operation. RITA((R)) System (RITA Model 1500 RF Generator, RITA Medical Systems, Inc., USA) was used during the procedure. Conclusion: Cystectomy and pericystectomy in liver hydatid disease can be successfully performed with the assistance of RF energy. Copyright (c) 2006 S. Karger AG, Basel.
