Belirtilen bu nedenler önlem alınabilecek unsurlar olduğundan toplumun bu konuda bilgilendirilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır.Öğe An analysis of children's thoughts about the nursing profession using the method of having children draw pictures(DRUNPP-SARAJEVO, 2012) Canbulat, Nejla; Kurt, Ayse Sonay; Balci, Serap; Kara, SedaPurpose: The research was carried out for the purpose of analyzing the thoughts of children, ages 11-13, about the professions of nursing, using the method of having children draw pictures. Materials and Methods: The study was of descriptive design and the research universe comprised pupils in the second tier (6th, 7th, and 8th grades) of a primary school located in the Esenler District of Istanbul. Sample size was calculated with the familiar sample formula and on the day of the study, 147 willing students who were present that day were accepted into the study group. Data was collected using a Questionnaire that consisted of 10 questions related to the children's socio-demographic characteristics and the topic of the research. To determine the children's thoughts on the nursing profession, the students were asked to draw the first thing that came to their minds when they heard the word "nurse." The pictures the children drew were analyzed in terms of the children's positive/negative concepts about the role of the nurse and about nurses in general. The data was analyzed in terms of descriptive statistics (percentages, means) and evaluated using the chi-square test. Results: The mean age of the children in the study was 12.00 +/- .82 and 54.4% were girls. Of the children, 58.5% stated that they had never been hospitalized and 78.2% said they had no acquaintances who worked as a nurse. When the drawings were examined, it was found that 68.7% of the children had included the figure of a nurse, 70.7% had depicted the therapeutic role of nurses in their drawings, and 83.2% were found to have positive thoughts about the nursing profession. It was determined that there was a significant difference in children's thoughts about nurses according to their genders and whether or not they were acquainted with an actual nurse (p<0.05). Conclusion: The children in the study mostly reflected the therapeutic role of the nurse in their drawings, and it was found that girls in particular and also children who knew people who were nurses had more positive thoughts about nurses.Öğe Effectiveness of External Cold and Vibration for Procedural Pain Relief During Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation in Pediatric Patients(ELSEVIER SCIENCE INC, 2015) Canbulat, Nejla; Ayhan, Fatma; Inal, SevilThe aim of this study was to investigate the effect of external cold and vibration stimulation via Buzzy on the pain and anxiety level of children during peripheral intravenous (IV) cannulation. This study was a prospective, randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 176 children ages 7 to 12 years who were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group that received no peripheral IV cannulation intervention and an experimental group that received external cold and vibration via Buzzy. The same nurse conducted the peripheral IV cannulation in all the children, and the same researcher applied the external cold and vibration to all the children. The external cold and the vibration were applied 1 minute before the peripheral IV cannulation procedure and continued until the end of the procedure. Pre-procedural anxiety was assessed using the Children's Fear Scale, along with reports by the children, their parents, and an observer. Procedural anxiety was assessed with the Children's Fear Scale and the parents' and the observer's reports. Procedural pain was assessed using the Wong Baker Faces Scale and the visual analog scale self-reports of the children. Preprocedural anxiety did not differ significantly. Comparison of the two groups showed significantly lower pain and anxiety levels in the experimental group than in the control group during the peripheral IV cannulation. Buzzy can be considered to provide an effective combination of coldness and vibration. This method can be used during pediatric peripheral IV cannulation by pediatric nurses. This descriptive study was conducted in various health centers located in Erzurum, Turkey. The sample consisted of 268 female health workers (physicians, n = 51; nurses, n = 169; and midwifes, n = 48). Data were collected by using a self-administered questionnaire and the Turkish version of Champion's Health Belief Model Scales (CHBMS). The mean age of participants was 31.31 (S.D. = 6.89), and 49.9% of them were married. It was found that only 21.9% of the female health workers performed breast self-examination (BSE) regularly, and 12.5% of them had a mammogram. Physicians' health motivation and BSE self-efficacy perceptions were higher than the nurses and midwifes. Susceptibility, health motivation to BSE, BSE benefits, BSE self-efficacy perceptions of female health workers who performed BSE were significantly higher than those who did not, and a result indicating that positive health beliefs are effective in stimulating performance of BSE of female health workers. Among the variables related with mammography, only susceptibility perceptions of female health workers who had a mammogram was significantly higher than those who had not had a mammogram.
