    Bazı Türkiye Yerli Irk Koyunlarında Entansif Besi Süresince Vücut Ölçülerinin Değişimi

    Bu araştırma, Akkaraman, Dağlıç, Kıvırcık, Malya ve Karacabey Merinosu (KM) ırkı kuzuların entansif besideki vücut gelişimlerini karşılaştırmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada her ırktan 10 baş olmak üzere toplam 50 baş erkek kuzu kullanılmıştır. Kuzular ortalama 20 kg canlı ağırlıkta ve yaklaşık 2.5 aylık yaşta besiye alınarak 68 gün süreyle entansif şartlarda beslenmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan Akkaraman, Dağlıç, Kıvırcık, Malya ve KM?lerin sırasıyla cidago yüksekliğindeki artış 9.8, 5.9, 11.2, 10.5 ve 10.2 cm, sağrı yüksekliğindeki artış 13.0, 10.9, 8.6, 12.5 ve 12.2 cm, vücut uzunluğundaki artış 13.1, 8.6, 8.6, 13.8 ve 14.4 cm, göğüs çevresindeki artış 20.2, 15.6, 16.5, 23.9 ve 20.7 cm, but çevresindeki artı? 22.9, 16.5, 16.2, 21.1 ve 20.5 cm olarak bulunmuştur. Entansif besi süresince Akkaraman, Malya ve KM genotiplerinin vücut gelişimi birbirine benzer seyir takip etmiş ancak Kıvırcık ve Dağlıç genotiplerinin vücut gelişiminden üstün oldukları görülmüştür.

    Comparison of Two Sampling Methods for Assessing Wool Properties in Awassi Sheep

    Midside sampling of wool is not the standard method of sampling fleeces in Turkish laboratories. Different wool sampling methods were compared with respect to fleece traits in Awassi sheep with coarse-mixed wool. Wool samples were taken from the shoulder, hide and rump areas (Method 1) and from the last rib of the body (Method 2). Staple length, fibre length, crimp, fibre diameter and yield values were determined in each sample. Mean values for methods 1 and 2 were: 11.9 and 11.6 cm staple length, 15.1 and 15.4 cm fibre length, 9.0 and 9.2 average number of crimps over a length of 5 cm, 31.3 and 31.9 mu m fibre diameter, 70.20% and 69.50% wool yield, respectively. These differences were statistically non significant so last rib area means (Method 2) were equivalent to three area means (Method 1). Evaluation of samples by using method 2 is easier than method 1 so it is to be recommended.

    The effect of some testicular characteristics of Akkaraman and Awassi rams on litter size

    In this study. some testis characteristics of 27 Akkaraman and 28 Awassi rams were determined and the relationship between testis size and their mothers' litter size were investigated. Testis diameter, testis lenght, scrotal circumference and scrotum lenght were found as 6.44, 12.17. 33.75 and 18.03 cm for Akkaraman rams and for Awassi rams 5.86, 11.95, 31.70 and 17.63 cm, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between breeds for testis diameter and scrotal circumference (P<0.01), and the differences for testis lenghts and scrotum lengths were no found significant. Correlations between liveweights and testis measurements were found statistically significant for Akkaraman rams, and found insignificant for Awassi rams. The results of this investigation indicated that there were no significant differences between litter sizes of rams' mothers having large and little testis size for both breeds.
