Öğe Antibacterial and antifungal activity of Heracleum sphondylium subsp. artvinense(2006) Ergene A.; Guler P.; Tan S.; Mirici S.; Hamzaoglu E.; Duran A.Ethanol and aqueous extract of Heracleum sphondylium subsp. artvinense was investigated for their antimicrobial activities against eight bacterial species (Enterococcus feacalis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogenes, Shigella, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Corynobacterium diphtheria) and two yeast (Candida albicans and C. krusei). Both ethanol and aqueous extract of H. sphondylium subsp.artvinense showed antimicrobial activity against the gram-positive bacterium (S. aureus). © 2006 Academic Journals.Öğe Composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of tanacetum cadmeum (Boiss.) heywood subsp. Orientale grierson(2007) Özek G.; Özek T.; Işcan G.; Başer K.H.C.; Hamzaoglu E.; Duran A.Water distilled essential oil of aerial parts of Tanacetum cadmeum (Boiss.) Heywood subsp. orientale Grierson (Asteraceae) was analyzed by GC and GC/MS methods. Ninety three compounds have been characterized representing 97.8% of the oil. 1,8-Cineole (18.9%), p-cymene (15.7%), terpinen-4-ol (14.8%), borneol (9.8%) and ?-terpinene (3.5%) were found to be the major constituents of the oil. Antimicrobial activity of the oil was tested via micro-dilution broth method. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Candida albicans were used as the test microorganisms. © 2007, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Boiss. (Umbelliferae) fruits used as a condiment in food products traditionally was analyzed by GC and GC/MS methods. Eighty compounds were characterized representing 91.6% of the oil. Hexadecanoic acid (11.6%), nonacosane (8.0%), germacrene D (6.1%) and myristicin (4.4%) were found to be the major constituents of the oil. © 2007, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Methods: Conducted at the Experimental Animal Laboratory of Meram Medical School at Selcuk University, Konya, Turkey, the study comprised 21 New Zealand female albino rabbits who were divided into three groups. Trauma was applied on the sham and aprotinin groups, which was administered intravenous Aprotinin 20.000 U/kg. Arterial blood samples were obtained from all rabbits at hours 0, 3, 24, and 96. At hour 96 after trauma, all rabbits were sacrificed using the decapitation method, and then blood and lung tissue samples were obtained. Blood nitric oxide, malondialdehyde and blood gas measurements were made. Histopathological changes in the lung were examined with a light microscope. Results: While no positive effect of aprotinin was observed on nitric oxide malondialdehyde and partial pressure of carbon dioxide values, it was seen to have an increasing effect on partial oxygen pressure level. Aprotinin had a partial effect on lung histopathology. Conclusion: Aprotinin was determined to have a positive effect on PO2 levels. We could not find any positive effects especially on alveolar haemorrhage.Öğe Essential oil composition of Salvia heldreichiana Boiss. Ex Bentham described endemic species from Turkey(2007) Basalma D.; Gürbüz B.; Sarihan E.O.; Ipek A.; Arslan N.; Duran A.; Kendir H.Plant material of Salvia heldrichiana Boiss. Ex Bentham was collected from the locality: C4 12th km on Konya, Hadim-Kizilkaya-Karaman road. Aerial parts of plants was dried in shadow then the leaves were separated from the stems. The essential oil was extracted from the leaves by hydro distillation method. The average content of essential oil was obtained as 0.22 %. The water-distilled essential oil from dried leaves of this species was analyzed by GC-MS. Total 60 components, representing 92.7 % of the oil, were characterized. The main component of essential oil was ?-pinene with 13.35%. The other important compounds were identified such as spathulenol, caryophyllene oxide, ?-cadinol, linalool and ?-terpineol.Öğe Essential Oils of Three Species of Heracleum. Anticandidal Activity(2004) İşcan G.; Özek T.; Özek G.; Duran A.; Baser K.H.C.Fruits of Heracleum crenatifolium Boiss., Heracleum sphondylium L. subsp. ternatum (Velen.) Brummitt, and Heracleum platytaenium Boiss. (Umbelliferae) were hydrodistilled to obtain essential oils that were then analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The major component was identified as octyl acetate (93.7, 87.6 and 31.6% respectively). Octyl butyrate was also characterized as the main component in H. platytaenium oil. Furthermore, anticandidal activity of the oils was evaluated using the microdilution broth method. All the oils showed good inhibitory effects against C. glabrata.Öğe Karyotype of Matthiola trojana (Brassicaceae), a recently described endemic from Turkey(Asian Network for Scientific Information, 2007) Martin E.; Duran A.; Dirmenci T.In this research, the chromosome number and morphology of M. trojana species are determined. Somatic chromosome number was counted as 2n = 12. The karyotype of this species consisted of four metacentric chromosome pairs and two submetacentric chromosomes. Chromosome length varies between 2.44-4.27 ?m. The karyogram and idiogram were determined based on centromeric index and arranged in the decreasing size order. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information.Öğe Seropositivity of chlamydia pneumoniae in acute ischemic stroke [Akut i?skemi?k strokta chlamydi?a pneumoniae seropozi?fli??i?](Turkish Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2004) Gül M.; Duran A.; Kaya H.; Uca A.U.BACKROUND: The aim of our study was to investigate a relation between Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) and Chlamydia pneumoniae (CP). METHODS: The study was performed as a clinical prospective study. Totally, 104 healthy volunteers [76 male (73%), 28 female (27%), aged 64±14 years old] and 126 patients with AIS [64 female (51%), 76 male (73%), aged 67±14 years old] applied to Emergency department of Meram Medical School, Selcuk University, between January 01, 2001 and December 31, 2001 were studied. The patients and the controls were compared in respect to their CP seropositivity (CP IgG and CP IgA antibodies). RESULTS: The seropositivity of CP IgA and CP IgG was statistically significant in the patients group compared to that of the control group (p=0. 006 and p=0.001 respectively). CONCLUSION: Our results implies a relation between CP and AIS. Possibility of such a relation deeds to be more investigated.
