Öğe The donnan potentials of polysulfonated cation exchange membranes(2012) Cimen A.; Ersöz M.; Yildiz S.Membrane potentials of polysulfonated cation exchange membranes (unsupported polysulfone, SA 3S and polyester supported polysulfone, SA 3T) for KCl, NaCl and LiCl solutions using Ag/AgCl electrodes were measured. The measurements were carried out for, KCl SA 3S or SA 3T MCL, (M: K, Na and Li) systems. The concentration of salt (KCl) was kept constant in one side of the cell, C 1, at 1.10 -2 M was changed in the other side of the cell C 2, from 1.10 -4 to 2.0 M. The alteration graphs were drawn in order to find the potential values of membranes for (ln C 2) changes. Using the Donnan equation and the Teorrel Meyer Sievers theory, Donnan potentials were calculated theoretically. It was found that it had been dependent on ionic concentration of external solution. Donnan potential values determined for both membranes are parallel at 0.05 M concentration but there is deviation this value.Öğe Reduced transport numbers of PolysulfoneMembranes from the initial time EMF measurements(2012) Cimen A.; Ersöz M.; Yildiz S.Initial membrane potentials of polysulfone cation exchange membranes were measured with KCl, NaCl, LiCl CaCl 2 and FeCl 3 solutions by using Ag/AgCl electrodes. The measurements were carried out for KCl / unsupported polysulfone cation exchange membranes (SA 3S) or polyester supported polysulfone cation exchange membranes (SA 3T) / KCl, NaCI, LiCI, CaCl 2 and FeCl 3 systems. The concentration of KCl, C 1, was kept constant at 1.10 -2 M in one cell; however the concentrations of KCl, NaCI, LiCl, CaCl 2 and FeCl 3, C 2, in the other cell were changed from 1.10 -4 M to 2.0 M. The Supported face of SA 3T membrane was brought to equilubrium with the left- hand solution and then, the unsupported face of SA 3T membrane was exposed to the right-hand solution. Transport number of K +, Na +, Li +, Ca +2, Fe +3 ions corresponding to the each of two surface layers of the membrane was evaluated from the initial time and the fifth minute emf measurements.
