Öğe The endemic status of Anaplasma marginale in cattle, in Turkey(AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COMMUNICATION CENTRE, 2018) Isik, N.; Ekici, O. Derinbay; Sevinc, F.This study was designed to determine the prevalence and endemic status of Anaplasma marginale in cattle in the province of Konya. A total of 700 cattle were randomly selected, categorized in different age groups (i.e. 0-6, 7-12, 13-24, 25-36 and >36 months) and examined in Kadinhani, Cumra and Beysehir provinces and in Konya city center. The presence of A. marginale was diagnosed by microscopic examination of blood smears and competitive ELISA (cELISA). Parasites were observed in 11.29% of blood smears, and 31.86% of animals were positive for antibodies against A. marginale. The rates of seropositivity in successively older age groups were 19.1, 24.39, 33.14, 44.21 and 37.36% respectively. The endemic status of the disease was determined by calculating the inoculation rate (h) of cattle in each age group. The h value was detected to be lower than 0.005 and the endemic status of A. marginale was found to be unstable. If the cattle in Konya province were vaccinated when they are 9 to 12 months of age, they could be protected during the seasons when the disease is prevalent.Öğe Instability of Ovine Babesiosis in an Endemic Area in Turkey(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Ekici, O. D.; Sevinc, F.; Isik, N.This study was designed to determine the endemic status of Babesia ovis in sheep in Turkey. A total of 2000 sheep, from different age groups (i.e. 0-3, 4-6, 6-9, 10-12, and >12 months), were selected randomly from 132 sheep flocks. The presence of specific antibodies against B. ovis was diagnosed by indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT). A total of 843 (42.15%) serum samples were determined to be positive. The seropositivity rates in the age groups stated above were 31.90, 31.64, 47.69, 40.22, and 52.99%, respectively. The endemic status of the disease was determined by calculating the inoculation rate (h) of each group. The h value for each group was determined to be lower than 0.005, which revealed that the endemic status of B. ovis was instable. This report may indicate the necessity of vaccination. D.; Isik, N.The aim of this study was to determine the cardiotoxic side effect of imido carb in sheep. Imidocarb was administered subcutaneously at the dose of 2.4 mg/kg to healthy ten lambs and blood samples were obtained immediately before and 6 hours after the drug administration. Serum cardiac damage markers I troponin I and myoglobin concentrations. CK-MB (creatine kinase isotype MB). LDH (lactate deshydrogenase) and AST (aspartate aminotransferase)]. some renal [creatinine and BUN (blood urea nitrogen)] and liver I total protein. albumin. lactate. glucose concentrations and ALT (alanine aminotranferase). ALP (alkaline phosphatase). GGT (gamma-glutamyl transferase) activities] markers and the general lipid metabolism (amylase activity. cholesterol. triglyceride. HDL concentrations) were explored as well as the venous blood gas parameters (pH. haematocrit. haemoglobinemia. pCO(2)). total carbon dioxide. bicarbonate concentrations) and base excesses. oxygen saturation. Na. K and Ca concentrations). The imidocarb treatment has induced significant increases of CK-MB activities. and significant reductions of the haematocrit. haemoglobinemia. sodium and calcium concentrations and of pCO(2), tCO(2). alkaline store and base excesses. These results suggest that the drug exerted some moderate elicits on the heart leading to a tendency for respiratory acidosis and that the risk for imidocarb cardiotoxicity remained moderate hut not negligible.
