Konya province, which is one of the most important agricultural areas in Turkey, was chosen as the study area. A survey was undertaken covering 181 enterprises identified using the stratified sampling method. The phenomenon of sustainable income was defined in order to determine the economic sustainability of agricultural enterprises. The study results, based on the average, suggest that sustainable income can be achieved without public support. However, the level of sustainable income differs by enterprise size group. It was observed that enterprises in the first and second groups (0-50 da, 51-150 da) are not economically sustainable despite public support. However, some enterprises that have applied intensive farming and livestock production did achieve a sustainable income level. Rural industry must be promoted and demand created, to ensure economic sustainability and prevent socio-economic problems by including livestock production activities, utilizing economies of scale, raising awareness of organizational behavior, developing products suitable for the region's ecology and economic structure with contract production and dissemination of alternative income-generating production activities.Öğe Factors affecting milk production in dairy farming enterprises and effectiveness analysis: a case study in Konya Province of Turkey(UNIV FED RURAL PERNAMBUCO, DEPT ADMINISTRACAO, 2016) Oguz, Cennet; Canan, SelimeThe aim of this study to calculate milk production costs of milk producers both member and non-member of Eregli Milk Producers Union, to make an analysis of factors affecting milk production and finally to calculate the technical efficiency of the enterprises in Konya. The basic data has been obtained from voluntary 50 distinct dairy farms which were selected randomly through the face to face survey method, among which there are both union members and individual producers. The unit milk cost of member enterprises is estimated as 0,65 TL/kg and 0,67 TL/kg for non-member enterprises. Among the productions costs, the highest share belongs to the forage costs. Results of Cobb-Douglas production function analysis reveal that concentrate feed statistically affect the milk production of milk producers being member to the Eregli Milk Producers Union on a significant level. It is defined that the coarse feed and concentrate forage affected the milk production in non-member milk producers. Even though the technical efficiency is in good level in the research area, it is not in the desired level. Technical efficiency was analyzed using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. While the technical efficiency of union member dairy farming enterprises is 0,83, for nonmember enterprises is 0,86. Organization of Eregli milk producers, carrying out technical training and publications and increasing quality coarse feed production in the enterprises will contribute to the development of milk production activities.Öğe Factors affecting milk production in Eregli District of Konya in Turkey(Selçuk Üniversitesi, 2013) Oguz, Cennet; Kaya, SelimeThe present study aims to calculate milk production cost and relevant economic limitations over the dairy producers both organized and non-organized under a union within the Eregli District in Konya. Reaching milk standards is one of the important and difficult components of CAP. Food and agricultural organization (FAO) undertook a milk sector study to review the sector and to provide an analysis of the challenges and constraints in the sector, and the possible measures that would need to be undertaken to prepare Turkey for EU membership. This research was conducted in milk sector in Konya province where there were about 26.226 milk producers and annual milk production was 442, 349 680 L in 2010. The study materials were collected from 4 workshops of dairy and dairy products beneficiaries' participations in Konya. The workshop methods were moderation techniques. The overall objective is to create a model of civil society dialogue (CSD) on dairy business that can be a guiding model for the other agricultural sub-sectors. Dairy farms, milk production, processing, packaging, and related management functions were analyzed and the implementation of the CSD model for establishing milk standards were drawn as a result of the study. The CSD model which is described in this study may apply for solving related problems of agricultural sub-sectors in developing countries within sub-sector beneficiaries or stockholders.Öğe MULTIDIMENSIONS OF POVERTY FOR AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY IN TURKEY: KONYA PROVINCE CASE(UNIV AGRICULTURE, FAC VETERINARY SCIENCE, 2018) Kan, Mustafa; Oguz, Cennet; Kan, Arzu; Ergun, Huseyin; Demiroz, EmelPoverty is a multi-dimensional global phenomenon. It encompasses health, housing, education, and social exclusion as well as simple incomes and expenditures. Multidimensional poverty is currently at the heart of many theoretical, empirical and institutional debates. The study was carried out in a rural settlement of Konya province in Turkey to determine the rural population's poverty structure and to quantify different general characteristics of both the poor and non-poor population according to the poverty line (relative poverty based household income-monetary approach) and asset based wealth index approach The results showed that, there was strong similarity between the income based approach and asset based wealth index approach for most factors. The source of income for the people in the study area was from non-agricultural sector and the material deprivation is also an important factor for wealth. It was found that non-agricultural income was higher in the wealth group (75-100%) than the other groups under study. The poor and low income households have high number of animals These kinds of enterprises were mostly located in the high altitude areas which were not appropriate for crop production. It can be concluded in the light of investigated results that poverty is more prevalent in harsh geographical locations.Öğe Productivity analysis of dairy cattle farms in Turkey: case study of Konya Province(UNIV FED RURAL PERNAMBUCO, DEPT ADMINISTRACAO, 2018) Oguz, Cennet; Yener, AysunOne of the most important animal products for future generation nutrition is milk.
