Öğe Assessment of arterial stiffness in patients with inactive and active Behcet's disease(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2014) Yilmaz, S.; Celik, G.; Esmen, S. E.Objectives: Behcet's disease (BD) is a systemic vasculitis involving diverse sizes of arteries and veins. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between central blood pressures, pulse wave velocity (PWV) measurements, and biochemical parameters in patients with inactive and active BD and control subjects. Method: Ninety-six patients with BD were recruited in this study. Each subject was evaluated in active and inactive disease periods. For the control group, 54 healthy age-and sex-matched subjects were enrolled. All patients completed a standard questionnaire form and various laboratory parameters were evaluated. Vascular measurements were performed with a Mobil-O-Graph 24-h PWA Monitor, an automatic oscillometric device. Results: According to the vascular function parameters of patients with active and inactive BD, 24-h, day, and night PWV values were higher in patients with active BD than in patients with inactive BD (p < 0.05). When we performed a linear regression analysis, 24-h PWV was positively correlated with age and duration of BD. Cardiac output (CO) values and day central diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were higher in patients with BD than in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: PWV values were higher in patients with active BD than in patients with inactive BD. This may be explained by more prominent inflammatory changes in the vascular wall in the active disease period. Further studies in large populations are required to confirm our results.Öğe DOSE ESCALATION AND SWITCHING PATTERNS OF ANTI-TNF DRUGS IN RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS: A RETROSPECTIVE CHART - REVIEW STUDY IN TURKEY(BMJ PUBLISHING GROUP, 2015) Kalyoncu, U.; Aydin, S. In the calculations, a variational procedure was employed within the effective-mass approximation. We found that the binding energies of the ground and excited states, the absorption coefficients, and the refractive index changes of 0s-1p and 1p-2d transitions depend on the applied electric field. The results show that the existence of the electric field has great influence on the optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes. Also, we have found that the magnitudes of the absorption coefficient and the refractive index change of the spherical quantum dot increase for transitions between higher levels. Numerical calculations have been performed for both infinite confinement case and for different finite confining potential values in a spherical CdS/SiO2 quantum dot. Also, for comparison purpose, oscillator strengths for a spherical ZnS/SiO2 quantum dot with an infinite confinement potential are evaluated. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. G.; Gurkan, A.; Yilmaz, S.BackgroundThere is a very limited amount of data available regarding the relationship between alopecia areata (AA) and psychiatric morbidity and quality of life (QoL) in children and adolescents. ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to determine the psychiatric state and health-related quality of life (HRQL) of children and adolescents with AA, as well as their relationships with clinical parameters. MethodsThe sample consisted of 74 children with AA aged 8-18years. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the psychiatric status and HRQL of the patients. The study and control groups were divided into child and adolescent groups to exclude the effect of puberty on psychological condition. ResultsIn the child group, patients had higher state anxiety and trait anxiety scores; they also had lower parent-rated psychosocial and total area HRQL scores than the controls did. In addition, the depression score was prone to show a positive relationship with having AA in the children. In the adolescent group, however, only the state anxiety score had a significant association with AA. All of the parent-rated HRQL scores were also prone to being lower compared with controls in this age group. Regarding determinants of HRQL, prolonged disease duration and later disease onset had positive effects, whereas severity of scalp involvement, trait anxiety and depression had negative effects, for the sample as a whole. ConclusionsAlopecia areata is associated with poor psychiatric status and QoL, especially in childhood. The impact of the disease on QoL occurs through both clinical and psychiatric parameters.Öğe The Role of Parental Temperament Traits in Disruptive Behavioral Disorders of Children with ADHD(ELSEVIER FRANCE-EDITIONS SCIENTIFIQUES MEDICALES ELSEVIER, 2015) Bilgic, A.; Yilmaz, S.; Ozcan, O.; Tufan, A. The electron eigenenergies and the corresponding wavefunctions have been determined by the variational method under the effective mass approximation. We have investigated the effects of the incident optical intensity, QD radius, and confinement potential on the intersublevel optical absorption coefficients. It is found that the size of the dot and depth of the confinement have a great effect on the linear, the nonlinear, and the total absorption coefficients. Also, the total optical absorption saturation intensity is controlled by the strength of the confinement or the incident optical intensity. (C) 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim
