Production of a new platform based calixarene nanofiber for controlled release of the drugs
(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2019) Cağıl, Esra Maltaş; Hameed, Othman; Özcan, Fatih
The aim of this study is to develop an electrospun calixarene nanofiber based calixarene for controlled release of hydrophobic drugs. To accomplish this, we have synthesized 5,17-bis[Methyl-N-Methyltranylate]-25,26,27,28-tetrahydroxycalix[4]arene (Compound 3) of which nanofiber (F-14) was produced by electrospinning. The fabricated multilayered electrospun nanofiber was first characterized in terms of morphology and then drug loading and release kinetics were studied in different physiological pH. For this purpose, we have selected two fluorescent drugs which are thiabendazole (Tbz) and donepezil (Dnp) as model drugs to show the usage of the synthesized nanofiber in drug delivery system. Drug loading and release kinetics were monitored by using fluorescence spectroscopy. According to the results, maximum amount of loaded Dnp onto nanofiber was found to be as 30.529 mu g in 20 mM Tris buffer, pH 7.4 end of 120 min. Data showed that loading amount of Tbz onto the nanofiber was measured to be as 1.688 mu g to the 2.25 cm(2) of surface in 20 mM of Tris buffer, pH 7.4 at the end of 120 min. While max release of Dnp from nanofiber was also 9.720 mu g at pH 2.2, that of Tbz from nanofiber was 0.243 mu g at pH 7.4 at the end of 90 min. Drug loading to nanofibers was clarified by SEM, TEM, EDX and FT-IR analysis.

Comparison of essential oil compositions of fresh and dried plant of endemic Salvia cadmica Boiss. var. bozkiriensis Celep, Kahraman & Doğan, in Turkey
(2018) Bağcı, Yavuz; Doğu, Süleyman; Çelık, Sadiye Ayşe; Kan, Yüksel
In this study, essential oil compositions of Salvia cadmica Boiss. var. bozkiriensis Celep, Kahraman & Doğan, (dried and fresh aerial parts) collecting from type locality was investigated. Essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation for 3 h using Clevenger type apparatus and the compositions was determined in GC-MS. In this research, it was observed that the EO compositions varied with respect to be fresh or dry of the plant parts. The LSD test results revealed that the highest EO content was 2-nonanone (29.59 %) in fresh aerial parts, while the highest content was pulegone (20.14 %) in dried part of the plant. Furthermore, some EO components were not found in the fresh aerial parts, while it was determined in dried parts of the plant (p-methylanisole, isomenthone, p-cymene, homofuranol, azunol, isomenthone, carvacrol, menthylacetate, roseoxide-2-one, pulegone, lauric aldehyde, isogermacrene-epoxide, isoborneol, geranyl butyrate, valealdehyde and safranol). On the contrary, some components were observed in the fresh aerial parts, while it was not found in dried parts of the plant (lindoxide, 2-oxapropanoic acid, ?-terpineol, ?-terpinene, carvone, geranyl butyrate, valealdehyde and safranol). The objective of the study was that the determination of the differences between the EO compounds and compositions varied according to be the plant fresh or dry.

Zinc Prevention of Electromagnetically Induced Damage to Rat Testicle and Kidney Tissues
(HUMANA PRESS INC, 2003) Özturk, Ahmet; Baltaci, Abdulkerim Kasım; Mogulkoc, Rasim; Öztekin, Esma
The aim of this study was to investigate the extent of lipid peroxidation when zinc is administered to rats periodically exposed to a 50-Hz electromagnetic field for 5 min at a time over a period of 6 mo. Twenty-four Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were subdivided in groups of eight animals each. Group 1 served as untreated controls, group 2 was exposed to an electromagnetic field but received no additional treatment, and group 3 was exposed to electromagnetic radiation and treated with 3-mg/kg daily intraperitoneal injections of zinc sulfate. The erythrocyte glutathione activity (GSH) and the plasma, testicle, and kidney tissue levels of zinc (Zn) and of malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured in all of the animals. The plasma and testicle MDA levels in group 2 were higher than those in groups 1 and 3, with group 3 values significantly higher than those in group 1 (p < 0.001). The kidney MDA levels in group 2 were higher than in groups 1 and 3 (p < 0.001). The erythrocyte GSH level was lower in group 2 than in groups I and 3, with group 1 significantly lower than group 3 (p < 0.001). In testicle and kidney tissues, the GSH levels in group 1 were lower than for groups 2 and 3, with group 2 significantly lower than group 3 (p < 0.001) The plasma zinc levels were highest in group 3, followed by group 1 and group 2, which showed the lowest value (p < 0.001). These results indicate that testicle and kidney tissue damage caused by periodic exposure to an electromagnetic field are ameliorated or prevented by zinc supplementation.

Specific Enzyme Activities in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid as an Aid to Diagnosis of Tracheobronchitis and Bronchopneumonia in Dogs
(W B SAUNDERS CO LTD, 2001) Maden, Mehmet; Altunok, Vahdettin; Birdane, Fatih Mehmet; Aslan, V; Nizamlioglu, M
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyl transferase enzyme activities, and total protein (TP), calcium, inorganic phosphate. urea nitrogen (UN) and creatinine concentrations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were investigated for their relative importance in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases in dogs. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid was obtained from 26 dogs (20 with respiratory diseases and six controls) following anaesthesia with sodium pentothal. Enzyme activities and biochemical parameters were measured in BAL fluid. LDH and ALP levels were significantly increased in 12 dogs with bronchopneumonia, but not in eight dogs with tracheobronchitis. Insignificant and variable levels of TP and UN concentrations were found in both groups. It was concluded that LDH and ALP enzyme activities could be considered as pointers to pulmonary inflammation and/or damage while TP and UN measurements in BAL fluid may have a place in the identification of changes in respiratory and vascular permeability.
