Objectives: In this study, we aimed to investigate how total antioxidant level (TAS), total oxidant level (TOS) and paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) enzyme levels are affected in Type 1 Diabetes. Materials and Methods: 53 children with Type 1 diabetes and 53 healthy children (control group) aged 3-18 years with type 1 diabetes were included in the study. Serum TAS, TOS and PON-1 levels were studied from the serum of the volunteers remaining from the routine examinations required for diagnosis and follow-up. glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterole, HDL-Cholesterole, C-peptide and insulin levels were obtained from hospital information management system. Results: In our study; TAS and TOS levels were significantly lower in the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.001). There was no relationship between HbA1c value and total antioxidant level and total oxidant level in patients with type 1 diabetes (r = -0.151; p = 0.193, r = 0.048; p = 0.795 respectively). The correlation between plasma glucose level and paraoxonase-1 enzyme level was not significant in the experimental group, but it was found to have a negative correlation in the control group (r = -0.288; p = 0.033). There was a significant correlation between TAS and TOS and PON-1 enzyme levels in patients with type 1 diabetes (r = 0.344; p = 0.12, r = 0.344; p = 0.012 respectively). Conclusion: In our study, TAS and TOS levels were found to be low in patients with type 1 diabetes. However, there was no significant relationship between glycemic control markers (HbA1c, plasma glucose) and TAS, TOS and Paraoxonase-1 levels in patients with type 1 diabetes.
