The effects of the training applied to expectant mothers related to the traditional applications of pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium [Anne adaylarina verilen e?itimin gebelik, do?um ve lohusali?a ilişkin geleneksel uygulamalara etkisi]

Özet

Objective: In this study, the influences of Mother Health and Child Care Training Program on expectant mothers' traditional belief and applications related to pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium have been researched. Material and Methods: In the research, both scanning and experimenting models have been used. While scanning model was used to define traditional belief and applications related to pregnancy, puerperium, the real experimental model with pre-test and post-test design was used to define the effects of traditional belief and applications of the training program. Among 64 pregnant individuals, 31 experimental from the sub-socio-cultural society and 33 from the control group, who could not take the benefits of the training sufficiently, were educated during 24-36 week-pregnancy period. In this study, the data were acquired first by applying "the Interview Form of Traditional Belief and Applications of Mother Health" (n= 196). Then, the "Scale of Traditional Belief and Applications in Mother Health" and "Success Test about Mother Health" were applied as pre-tests and post-tests. Results: 87.6 percent of the expectant mothers stated that they believed to become pregnant by drinking the mixture of different plants; 77% of mothers said by placing sugar, sugar, tar, and the cotton made out of herbs, spices and onions, etc., into the uterus, 78.2% said that they believed the baby would be beautiful if the pregnant lady stared at the beautiful people around. At the end of the training, a significant increase were recorded in the post test achievement scores of experimental group, and achievement test was found to be higher than the control group posttest mean scores (p=0.025). There was no significant difference among the mean scores of pretest/posttest AS-FOIU Attitude Scale in the control group (p=0.525). At the end of the training, it was observed that there were positive changes among mothers related to pregnancy, delivery, and puerperium, furthermore AS-FOIU posttest attitude scale means were found to be significantly higher than pretest scores (p<0,053). Conclusion: As a result of evaluation of data, it is asserted that there has been a positive improvement in the training program about the traditional belief and applications related to pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium care topics and the training program has been successful.
