Özet
Our study is about history of the Isauria region, in the ancient Age, Isauria was located by Strabo and other geophers between Lycaonia and Cilicia Isaurians appear to have occu pied the mountainous country south of Lycaonia, properly so called and bordering on Cilicia and Pisidia. Living in a wild and rugged tract, the character of this people partook of the na ture of the air and soil in which they were bred. They descended into the plain country and ravaged and plundered wherever they could overcome the resistance of the inhabitants of the valleys, whether in Cilicia, Phrygia, or Pisidia. The capital city is Isaura. Strabo reports in this region succeeded in conquering most of its fortress, and reducing them to subbission. These successes were thought sufficiently important to obtain for him (74 B.C) the honours of the triumph, and the surname of Isauricus. (Strabon XII. 568, 569) Diodoros reports that Isaura city was ceded by the Perdikkas who cansed the old town to be destroyed, (B. 322. B.C.), (Diodoros XXVIII, 22) And Strabon also reports that Isaura city (Zengibar Kalesi) was destroyed Amyntas, who commenced the foundation of new city, which he surrounded with walls, but did not live to complete the work. Hence the distinction which the geo- graphes elsewhere makes of Isaura Palaia (Vetus) and Isaura Nova (XI, p. 568, 569). Isaura city, in the tablo ıtinary leads us to look for this town on a line of road commu nicating between Iconium and Anemurium in Cilicia Tracheia, agreeably to Pliny's account, who says that Isauria stretches down towards the sea in that direction (V. 27). In the prehistoric period Isauria region was connection Çatalhöyük and Suberde. Su- berde is a Isauria city. This is very important for Isauria prehistoric. In the Hitite Period, Isauria region was called Tarhuntassa. Isauria was under the name of Pirindu, an indepen dent state in the Neo-Babylonian period. Regarding the preceding period it cannot begroved that this region then belonged to the Phrygian Empire or indepente. In the Persian and Helle nistic period this region was Semi-indepente (vassal) state. The compound Luwian names are most numerous in precisely this region where the population managed to retain for the longest period a large degree of independence. We think this culture! influence was started second part of third millenium B.C. We can say Isauria region has jeopoütical-importence in the history. Because of that between the Central AnatoEa and Mediterrian Sea.
