An ideal textbook for young learners

Bu çalısmanın amacı, Türkiye'de Milli Egitim Bakanlıgı tarafından ilkögretim okullarında ücretsiz olarak dagıtılan 4. sınıf ngilizce ders kitaplarının degerlendirmesini sunmak ve genç ögrenciler için ideal ders kitabının nasıl olması gerektigini belirtmektir. Bu tezin arastırma asamasında genç ögrencilerin karakteristik özellikleri, ders kitaplarının özellikleri ve 4. sınıf yabancı dil dersi müfredatı incelenmistir. lkögretim okullarında kullanılmıs olan Spring 4, Build up Your English 4 ve Enjoy English 4 isimli ders kitapları ile su anda ilkögretim ngilizce dersi için tek ders kitabı olarak kullanılmakta olan Time for English 4 isimli ders kitabı degerlendirilmistir. Bu tez de, Time for English 4 ders kitabı 4. sınıflar için, ders kitabı degerlendirme ölçütlerine göre yeterli bulunmus ve büyük ölçüde ideal ders kitabı özelliklerine sahip oldugu belirtilmistir.

The aim of the study is to present an evaluation 4th grade English coursebooks, which are officially issued for, distributed free of charge in state primary schools by the Ministry of National Education in Turkey and to point out how an ideal textbook for young learners should be. In the research stage of this thesis, the characteristics of young learners, features of a textbook and Turkish Curriculum of foreign language for 4th grade students were examined. The coursebooks (Spring 4, Build up Your English 4, Enjoy English 4) that were utilized in state primary schools and Time for English 4 which is newly used as the main coursebook for English lessons were evaluated. In this thesis, Time for English 4 was found sufficient for 4th grade students in terms of coursebook evaluation criteria and it was found that it nearly covers ideal textbook features.
