Özet
The Ceylanpinar Plain, extending over an area of approx. 180 000 ha, is part of a large-scale water management project (GAP) in the southeastern part of Turkey. It was found that the 13 investigated soils consist mainly of sandy loam containing a high percentage of silt and showing a slightly alkaline reaction and a minor salt content. They are poor in organic matter, but rich in free CaCO3 as well as in exchangeable K and plant-available Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn. Some of them reveal a high P content and relatively good exchange capacities. Due to these properties the soils seem to be well suited for the introduction of irrigated cultivation. An important aspect would be keeping the danger of salinization of the soils in check. -from English summary
