Özet
This study which aims to assess differences in readings and perceptions of television show audiences is mainly concerned with the debate over the power of the social media and the extensive use of new communication technologies - Smartphone, tablet, pc's etc. - as a threat to individuals' development of humanistic values and attitudes. The first part of the British produced Black Mirror TV show- "The National Anthem" which deals with the effects of social media and the new communication technologies has been selected as a case study. 11 participants - three of them male- have been in-depth interviewed over questions developed in relation to the issues. Alongside the different media reading practices of the participants, predetermined questions have been addressed to the participants with the aim to gain an understanding how they perceived social media effects as mentioned in the show. The findings showed that a great majority of the participants perceived from the show that the social media constituted a major power on the lives of individuals.
