Özet
The Decline of Medieval Hellenism… adlı eseri ile tanınan Speros Vryonis, bu makalesinde Anadolu’daki Göçebeleşme ve İslâmlaşma ve nihayetindeki değişim ve dönüşüm üzerine odaklanmıştır. Yazar Anadolu’da Bizans medeniyetinin çöküşü ve Anadolu’daki dönüşümü adı geçen kavramlar temelinde incelemiştir. Makalenin Türkçe’ye kazandırılmasının, Tarih alanında ve Ortaçağ tarihi özelinde oldukça önemli olduğunu düşünmekteyim. Buradan hareketle makale tercümesinde bazı hususlara dikkat çekmek yerinde olacaktır. Tercümede olabildiğince orijinal metne bağlı kalınmıştır. Yazar tarafından verilen bazı kavramlar ve yer adları kaynaklardaki gibi aynen verilmiştir. Bu kavram ve yer adlarını değiştirmeden yanlarına köşeli parantez içinde günümüzdeki karşılıkları verilmeye çalışılmış ve açıklama gereği duyulanlar da açıklamaları ve kaynakları ile birlikte verilmiştir. Makalenin başında verilen terimler listesi ve tercümesi Tablo 1’de; makalenin daha iyi anlaşılması için de yazarın kitabındaki harita da ayrıca verilmiştir.
Speros Vryonis, known for his work The Decline of Medieval Hellenism…, focused on nomadization and Islamization in Anatolia and their consequences on public change and transformation. On the basis of the above-mentioned concept, the author examined the collapse of Byzantine civilization in Anatolia and the transformation in Anatolia. I think that introducing the article in Turkish is quite important in the field of history and, particularly in medieval history. In this sense, it would be a suitable opportunity to draw attention to some issues in translating the article. The translation is adhered to the original text as much as possible. Some concepts and place names given by the author are identical to that in the references. Current up-to-date meanings of these concepts and place names have been enclosed in square brackets without changing their originals and those that need clarity are given with their explanations and sources. The list of terms given at the beginning of the article and their translations are displayed in Table 1; The map in the author’s book is also provided to facilitate comprehension of the article.
