Özet

Water as it has a great significance in the maintenance of human life is, therefore, also important for the city life in many ways. Economical and efficient use of such an important source requires a good management. Good management can be realised by means of both a reliable and rapid information flow and analyses of these information data. In this study, data for digital monitoring of temporal changes in some of the qualitative parameters of well groundwater, which is used for the feed of the potable water supply pipeline network in the city of Konya, were collected and analysed. The location and height data were obtained for 271 wells spread all over the region by using a Magellan hand held Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. These location and height information of the wells were then loaded into a GIS environment, providing the digital visualisation of groundwater level distribution in the region. For such a data visualisation and management in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Arc View GIS software was used. Afterwards, qualitative data such as sulphate, magnesium, calcium and conductivity values for 150 wells out of 271 entered into Arc View GIS environment. It was also possible to visualise these data in the digital form. Using these spatial and qualitative data of wells, spatial distribution maps according to the various qualitative parameters were drawn for the groundwater in the region.
