During the process of participating the World War I, the mostsignificant contribution was provided to Ottoman State by the armoredbattleships which didn’t belong to it. Those armored battleships were theDreadnought of Goeben and the Cruiser of Breslau which were registeredto the Mediterranean Naval Commandership of Germany. The Germanarmored battleships reached to the Dardanelles Strait following the routesof Algeria-Italy-Turkey in accompany of British and French Naval Army. The developments which directly influenced the course of the battle allbegan with the entering of those ships into the territorial sea of OttomanState. This event which occurred just after the Turkish-German allianceagreement caused an international crisis. The principle which forbidsthe entering of the non-Ottoman foreign battleships into the straits hadbeen prepared in accordance with the international legal norms throughthe Berlin Treaty in 1878. The acceptance of those German armored shipsinto the inner sea after the Dardanelles Strait meant the violation of theaforementioned treaty. According to the international law codes, the foreignbattleships would either desert the territorial sea of the neutral state in 24hours or their crew would be arrested, their guns would be demounted andwould be kept in a safe port throughout the war. The Ottoman statesmenwho were under the pressure of the European states sorted out the currentcrisis through a different way. It was announced to the world that theGerman battleships were bought from Germany with the cost of 80 millionGerman Marks instead of the armored battleships of Sultan Osman I andReşadiye which were ordered from the UK and whose cost was paid inadvance. Actually, the purchase didn’t occur until the World War. Moreover, the control of the battleships and the initiative related to the activities ofthe ships would be under the control of German government throughoutthe war. As a result of this deception of sale, thus, the European countrieswouldn’t object to this and the course of the continuing World War I wouldcompletely change. In this study called “the Truth about Goeben and Breslau which shiftedthe Course of the World War I”, it will be revealed that the world opinionwas misguided through the declaration of a fake purchase employing thearchive documents and memories to support our theory.
