From Victim to Victor: Celie's Transformation in Alice Walker's the Color Purple

Bu tez, Afrika kökenli Amerikalı yazar Alice Walker'ın Renklerden Moru adlı romanındaki baş karakter Celie'nin dönüşüm yolculuğunu açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır. This thesis aims to explain the transformation journey of the protagonist Celie in the novel The Color Purple by the African-American writer Alice Walker. Celie is an ugly, uneducated, and poor girl who lacks self-confidence. However, she is capable of transforming her personality from passive to active, assertive, and independent. Encountering a series of assaults and rapes, Celie is completely voiceless, disenfranchised, and passive in life. However, as readers progress through the novel, they will observe Celie's gradual development of her own identity. Celie transforms from a victim to a victor with the support of three female characters: Shug, whose love helps Celie to reconstruct herself physically and emotionally; Nettie, who provides Celie with the tools for education; and Sofia, whose entire appearance and behavior exude pride. With this support, Celie works on liberating herself psychologically, spiritually, economically, and physically to gain her emancipation and grow from self-negation to selfassertion and self-actualization. This thesis explores the transformation of Celie's character throughout the novel. It delves into the social and cultural context of Celie's evolving experience, imbuing her journey with significance on both an individual and societal level.
