dc.description.abstractBu tez, Black Mirror dizisine odaklanarak, dijital bilim kurgu anlatılarında veri ekonomisi ve mahremiyet arasındaki karmaşık ilişkiyi araştırdı. Çalışmada dizinin kişisel verilerin ticarileştirilmesi ve metalaştırılmasını nasıl tasvir ettiği, gözetim ve veri ihlalleri dahil olmak üzere mahremiyet sorunlarını nasıl ele aldığı, dijital teknolojileri kişisel mahremiyete hem olanak sağlayan hem de tehdit oluşturan unsurlar olarak nasıl sunduğu ve karakterlerin bu zorluklara karşı tepkilerini nasıl tasvir ettiği sorularına yanıt arandı. Örneklem, araştırma sorularına yanıt vermesi bakımından amaçlı örnekleme tekniği kullanılarak seçildi. Seçilen bölümlerin (n=15) anlatı yapılarını, diyaloglarını ve görsel unsurlarını sistematik olarak incelemek ve yorumlamak için nitel araştırma desenine dayalı metin analizi tekniği kullanıldı. Genel cepheden açığa çıkan sonuç, dizide teknolojideki ilerlemeyle mahremiyet ve kişisel veri ihlali arasında anlamlı bir ilişki kurulduğunu gösterdi. Burada da birincil faktör, ticari amaç olarak karşımıza çıktı. Bulguların kişisel veri işleme konusunda farkındalık yaratacağı, bireylerin ve kurumların veri yönetimindeki ahlaki sorumluluklarını vurgulayacağı ve dijital etik tartışmalarına katkıda bulunacağı düşünülmektedir.
dc.description.abstractThis thesis explored the complex relationship between the data economy and privacy in digital science fiction narratives, focusing on the TV series Black Mirror. The study sought to answer the questions of how the series depicts the commercialisation and commodification of personal data, how it addresses privacy issues including surveillance and data breaches, how it presents digital technologies as both enablers and threats to personal privacy, and how it portrays characters' responses to these challenges. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique to answer the research questions. The text analysis technique based on qualitative research design was used to systematically examine and interpret the narrative structures, dialogues and visual elements of the selected episodes (n=15). What emerged on the general front was a significant relationship between technological advancement and privacy and personal data breach in the series. Here, too, the primary factor was the commercial purpose. It is thought that the findings will raise awareness about personal data processing, emphasise the moral responsibilities of individuals and institutions in data management and contribute to digital ethics debates.
