| dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander novels through the lens of Linda Hutcheon's adaptation theory, with a focus on issues of historical accuracy, feminism, and gender roles. The Outlander book series, set in 18th-century Scotland and North America, has become a cultural phenomenon with a loyal fan base. The television adaptation has been critically acclaimed and commercially successful, with multiple seasons and a spin-off series. This study explores how the Outlander television series adapts the source material, while also introducing new elements that cater to the medium of television. It examines the challenges faced by the adaptation team in dealing with the rich historical detail of the novels, and how the series has attempted to be faithful to the historical accuracy of the period. It also analyses the feminist elements of the adaptation, including the representation of women, and how the series has subverted traditional gender roles. Using Hutcheon's theory of adaptation, this thesis argues that the Outlander television series is a successful adaptation, as it retains the core of Gabaldon's narrative and themes, while also making necessary changes to suit the medium of television. It also contends that the series is a feminist adaptation, as it features strong female characters and presents a nuanced portrayal of women's roles in the 18th century. Drawing on critical analysis of the show and the novels, as well as interviews with the show's creators and cast, this thesis argues that the Outlander television series is a positive example of how adaptations can be faithful to the source material while also introducing new elements that suit the medium. The thesis also suggests that the series is an important contribution to the representation of women in television, as it subverts traditional gender roles and presents a nuanced portrayal of women's agency and power. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Bu tez, Diana Gabaldon'un Outlander romanlarının televizyon uyarlamasını, Linda Hutcheon'ın adaptasyon teorisi çerçevesinde, tarihsel doğruluk, feminizm ve cinsiyet rolleri konularına odaklanarak incelemektedir. 18. yüzyıl İskoçya ve Kuzey Amerika'da geçen Outlander kitap serisi, sadık bir hayran kitlesi ile kültürel bir fenomen haline gelmiştir. Televizyon uyarlaması, çok sayıda sezon ve bir yan diziyle eleştirel açıdan beğenilmiş ve ticari başarı elde etmiştir. Bu çalışma, Outlander televizyon dizisinin kaynak materyali nasıl uyarladığını ve aynı zamanda televizyonun yapısına uygun yeni öğeleri nasıl eklediğini keşfetmektedir. Uyarlama ekibinin romanların zengin tarihsel detaylarını ele alırken karşılaştığı zorlukları ve dizinin dönemin tarihsel doğruluğuna nasıl sadık kalmaya çalıştığını incelemektedir.
